Album Notes

Phoenix-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Anjanette Indelicato launches her eponymous debut CD, Anjanette, a collection of 9 eclectic tracks sampling a variety of different genres and moods that has been several years in the making.

Fans of Tori Amos will definitely recognize her influence here, in both style and spirit. Songs like “Amen,” “Fire,” and “It’s You Boy” are built on catchy hooks that would sound right at home on the radio. “Too Late,” “Slipping Away,” and “Ticket to Heaven” are beautiful, emotive ballads that showcase Anjanette’s rich voice. “Definition of Is” and “Thief” are unique and experimental, hard to categorize but easy to enjoy.

And then there’s the album closer, “Bleed,” which begins with a bit of slow-burn misdirection but suddenly transforms into a sexy, jazzy, nightclub number unlike anything else on the album. It’s a fitting end for a collection that explores such a broad array of musical territory.

These songs each have their own personality and flavor, but also fit together well as a cohesive whole. Unlike the rough, raw sound that is part and parcel with most DIY releases from newcomers, this debut sounds remarkably accomplished, with each song expertly polished and enhanced by studio musicians. Fans of stylish songstresses like Jewel, Colbie Caillat, Sarah McLachlan, and especially Tori Amos will definitely want to give Anjanette a listen.

Singer/songwriter Anjanette Indelicato completed her debut album in the summer of 2008. Influenced by current artists such as Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan, she started writing and performing music at an early age with her \"Mr. Microphone\" and Shawn Cassidy guitar. Many years of vocal, piano, and guitar lessons then followed, culminating in a M.A. in music. She now performs throughout the Phoenix area and is currently writing songs for her second album.

Awesome! This is a great album. I\'ve been playing \"It\'s You Boy\" over and over again in my car. The song reminds me of Liz Phair\'s more recent work. I also can\'t stop replaying \"Bleed\", which has a jazzy flavor that closes out the album perfectly. Can\'t wait to hear more from Anjanette!

I love this album! The description above is absolutely right in the comparisons to Tori. Some of these songs sound like they could be lost goodies from the Little Earthquakes sessions, and “Definition of Is” sounds uncannily like a song that Tori herself just hadn’t gotten around to recording yet. From beginning (“Amen”, which has a killer hook that dares you not to sing along with the chorus) to end (when those horns kick in during “Bleed”, I can’t help but smile), the whole album is a treat. I’ve enjoyed listening to it several times already. I really hope to hear more from this artist in the future!
