If you like Belle & Sebastian and Dar Williams you'll love Anna's House.

It’s great to hear that there are still some people out there who can write a good song...melodically and lyrically. I recommend this CD for anyone who likes artists like Belle and Sebastian, Dar Williams, and the Velvet Underground. "1985” and “ So many of Me” sound like they could have been on one of Belle and Sebastian’s early CD’s, and are just as good. Reminiscent of pop from the 1960’s with lyrics that are profound in which you can relate to. With repeated listens, the lyrics keep opening themselves up and I keep understanding and connecting more with the songs. The first verse of “ So many of Me “ assures and almost comforts the person telling the story in the song that she is not the only person who is alone or has problems, “ watching the pictures on TV finding the actress who is me, the girl in the back who has a non speaking part and that is how I see it, all pixels and lines, there are so many of me”. Musically the song builds at the end with piano, harmonies, and guitars which could have been played by the Velvet Underground, very powerful. The CD starts off with “Amelia” connecting present generations with that of past “ a big ship brought you here, and I guess that means me too “. The person telling the story goes on to wonder if her grandmother ( I assume it’s her grandmother ) who immigrated to America was happy she came and on another level, wonders if she would have even liked her grandmother “ with your stern face staring from the picture on the wall “, but reassures her grandmother and us that it was all worth the trip and the storyteller is doing just fine, ending the song on a note of HOPE. “ Sweet” has a rhythm similar to Dar William’s song “ the Christian and the Pagans “ and is just as catchy. Listen to it a few times and the chorus will be in your head for days. I highly recommend this CD you’ll be happy you bought it.
