Album Notes

Anna Spackman's sophomore album branches out from her beginning songs in adventurous ways, in both subject matter and musical cohesion. Spackman draws from many stories for inspiration, exploring voices of the earth and its children to illuminate how one voice is made by many through conversation and connection. Her voice has grown in maturity and confidence, and tumbles through her melodies with intention and playfulness. Self-recorded and produced, Spackman's work features excellent singers and instrumentalists, including her friend's cello and her brother's drums. The attention to detail is evident in the complex, rich layering of different sounds - each song seems to reach the place it was intended for. This lovingly created collection of stories and messages is empowering, inspiring, and is a versatile soundtrack for everything from road trips to rainy days.
Spackman hopes you will listen to Her Voice, share your own, and make a connection or two. That's what it's all about.

A Breakthrough Release

Collaboration fits well on Spackman's second release. The fervor with which she wrote the ten melodic masterpieces that make up "Her Voice" carried through to her nuanced production. Bringing in new voices and varied or layered instrumentation lends to the creation of whole new levels of depth for Spackman's work. The cello infuses the lyrics with a more poignant depth of meaning in "Ghost Story". The drum-work adds a sense of bustling and livened energy in "Portland". And the conversations between Spackman's own instrumentation (Guitar, Vocals, Piano, Accordion) showcases more efficiently some of the talent she shares with us on this sophomore release. 5 stars for Anna Spackman's "Her Voice".

Anna Spackman's music is emerging truth...the more you listen the more you come to know. This dsecond CD is a more developed production in comparison to her first, exquisitely enticing CD entittled "Skin and Bones." Her musical story telling is ageless. Enjoy.
