Album Notes

Ann Gallogly is an up and coming artist in the Chicago cabaret world. A member of Chicago Cabaret Professionals she has had sold out shows at Davenport’s Piano Bar and will soon be making her debut in Chicago’s thriving musical theater scene as well.

Ann graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance. Her classical training is apparent in her legitimate approach to Broadway music and is a breath of fresh air in a genre currently dominated by belters. Her voice sounds like a mixture of Dawn Upshaw and Audra McDonald – pure, connected and incredibly beautiful. She knows how to sing, but even better, she knows how to act through song.

Traditional Irish and musical theater do not often go together but after growing up in a household where St Patrick’ Day was heartily celebrated complete with sing-a-long, Ann has always been passionate about traditional music. The intense connection she portrays to the ballads and their stories reveal a wisdom and depth far beyond her years and the unfettered pleasure she has at singing songs like "The Whistling Gypsy" point to her clear understanding of Irish music and it’s ability to elicit joy.

This delight in Irish music was revitalized after returning to Chicago and discovering the thriving traditional sessions throughout the city and particularly at Celtic Crossings. Larry Nugent and Frank Quinn, both well-known Irish musicians in Chicago, play on her CD and on Sunday nights can frequently be found at Celtic Crossings.

Wild Mountain Thyme
author: Kristi
Beautiful voice. Whistling Gypsy sounded like it was fun to sing. Red is the Rose had good dynamic differentials. Really liked the change to lower registers and deeper tone in Wild Mountain Thyme.
