a note from Country Joe McDonald:
"Annie and the Vets have made a delightful and unique first album. The spirit and content and performances on this CD make it a wonderful entertainment package. It is unique today to find a musical product that is both politically right on and musically entertaining."
and Jim Hightower:
"Was that terrific! I just love George's song there."
speaking of "Connecticut Yankee" in Palo Alto, CA August, 2004, when Annie and the Vets opened for him.
Listen to the words on this CD....
Annie and the Vets - Consists of members of Veterans for Peace. "We, having dutifully served our nation, do hereby affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace."
Performers:
George Johnson - US Navy, Vietnam, 1962-66
Phil Pflager - US Air Force, 1961-65 (incl. Vietnam)
Anne Pflager - Veterans Supporter
The cover song, "Touch A Name On the Wall," by Joel Mabus, touches Vietnam veterans very deeply. Whenever Annie and the Vets perform, they get a strong reaction to this song, and requests for a recording of it. So, by popular demand, here is the CD.
Some other songs are fun, and most will make you think.
Proceeds from sales of this CD are going to Veterans for Peace. Yes, peace is possible.

Heart and Soul for Complicated Times
author: Jokie X WilsonThese folks have been around the block more than a few times and have managed to make sense of it all with sensitivity and humor. We can't walk away from the difficulties of life, but we can render them more bearable and we can get off our buns and make changes, even if only small ones. All this is to the tune of charming folksy music that will make you laugh and bring a tear to your eye. As you may have determined by the titles to the songs, they have an anti-war bent. But they also have a very pro-soldier, support-our-troops perspective. All of the performers are members of Veterans for Peace. After you listen to this CD, you'll want to hug the next soldier you see. Peace and Love! :-{D}
and I didn't think there was a song for us. . .
author: Doug NelsonI have been rather chagrined over the years at what I thought was a lack of a definitive Viet Nam war song. Now this - Touch a Name . . I was moved to tears. My thanks to Joel Mabus for writing it and to my fellow Veterans for Peace chapter members Annie and the Vets for their from-the-heart performance.
Great 60's era anit-war tunes!!
author: 240rwilkEvery song is very relevant to what is going on today and very reminisent of what went on 40 years ago. The political tone of this CD is very important. It's too bad that main stream radio will never play the tunes.
great music and audible words !
author: max wattsas a frita = friend of the ritas, resisters inside the armies - from way back, often feel i'm too old for much of the post 1946 music... (apparently my face dropping as heard the switch in sgt pepper's ? band around line 3... was a missed filming opportunity) these songs - listening as type - to "connecticut yankee" (thinking of mark twain) go with me all their way ! right on ! max watts
Great group that can make you laugh and cry
author: Peninsula Raging Granny RuthListen to the first track and you'll laugh your head off, listen to the second one and you will weep. If you have ever wanted to learn to cluck like a chicken, George Johnson of the "VETS" has got that down pat on another cut, "If Chickens had the Vote". I bought copies for Xmas/Hannukah presents this year. I want everyone I know to hear this important and moving music.
Even better than I had hoped
author: Jane SpannYes, I did receive it. Order #598924. I could not wait to listen to it as I had heard these artists at UN Plaza at one of the Peace rallies. A great CD. Of course, Touch A Name On the Wall hits home. I sang with it and cried with it. I liked all of the tracts. It would be difficult for me to select just one. I plan to order additional ones soon. Thank you! Jane
"If Chickens Had the Vote" sums up present politics
author: Kendyll Stansbury"Touch a Name on the Wall" is the first CD by Annie and the Vets. Most of the songs are about the consequences of war or politics that leads us into war. My favorite was "If Chickens Had the Vote", whose theme is "I know that we are smarter than the average clucking hen. So why do we elect them again and again?" It is a great collection of songs around its theme. Best of all, it is a fundraiser for Veterans for Peace.
Title song is superb
author: Joe SiroisI first heard Annie and The Vets play the title song at the Veterans For Peace convention. It touched me deeply. It's a treasure to have on CD at home. Other songs on the CD were mostly less engaging for me. Overall, though, well worth the price of purchase.
