Album Notes

BIOGRAPHY: ANNI LANG Anni Lang initially steered away from Country music though her one and only visit to Tamworth (Australia) saw her take out the Sougthgate Inn Grand Final, True Grit Pub Grand Final, Runner-up in the Oasis and a semi-finalist in Entertainer of the Year. Anni, who has travelled from Darwin to Far North Queensland, penning originals along her way, in a “Plane”, a car, in a train, stopped in Sydney long enough to seek out the services of Sam Hawksley, who provided her with a suitable backing band with the intent to do justice to her talents and, thus, her self-titled EP was born. Lang, born in a cab in Lygon Street, Carlton, rose from humble beginnings. She returned home in 2005 to spend time in Melbourne’s Prog Rock scene whilst continuing to write about her real life experiences. From meeting a lonely “Homeless Man” at Sydney’s Central Station, discovering thieves with her possessions in a “False World”, that they created for themselves, Lang has been surrounded by inspiration. The concept of “Square Frame” is quite amazing and even more amazing Lang once supported Bananas in Pyjamas – is this the driving force for her recent dance/electronica collaboration “Banana Nah”? Nah!! From relationships with “Mr Ordinary” being “Over and Over”, Lang’s “Take You With Me” will certainly do that. Blending lush instrumentation with dynamic arrangements, a gentle folk-tinged, sophisticated pop sensibility pervades the EP, the crystalline production ethic capturing a warmth and sheen that begs for commercial radio rotation. Lang is generous with her headspace. In tracks such as “Turn Right Now” and “Did I”, her emotive vocal delivery drifts seamlessly from one note to the next. Moreover, the gentle strumming and breezy progressions on the moving, “Mr Ordinary”, ache their way to a chorus that is as affirming as it is hooky and despite the celebrated cast on the EP, Lang’s velvety vocals are the pivotal point, her catchy songwriting crucial to the overall appeal.
