I First met Ann Stockdale in ‘69 in L.A. at Larrabee Sound, where Ann was recording some original songs with pianist Paul Harris. I had been taken there by Al Jarreau, whose manager also managed Ann. Al, Ann and singer/songwriter Judee Sill (who is just now receiving her due via re release on Rhino almost 30 years after her passing) were three people in our circle who the rest of us were looking forward to claiming we “knew them when.”
Moving from London to Hollywood in ‘69, Ann began creating her music.
Ann’s musical interests, from country to jazz have now fused into a unique style. I was gratified to hear that she still possessed that rare gift of a unique lyrical perspective that marked her music back then. My one request is that she include in this CD her song, “ Everyone Responded Warmly” (which has stayed with me over the years). I am happy to report that the first song I ever heard Ann sing is the first song on Ann’s long awaited first album.

I was born in Miami, Fla. And moved to Ireland ,when in High School, as my father became the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland under J.F.K. from the Royal Academy of
Dramatic Arts in London I did some stage work, including a play on Broadway ( directed by Alan Arkin ) and a few film parts( being a girl with a lobotomy in one of Jonathan Demmes’ first movies was fun!)Eventually I magnetized toward the music scene, which in London in 67-69 was very COSMIC..I remember being in the studio the night Jimi Hendrex finished writing and recording “ Little Wing “.
In late 69’ I actually moved to Hollywood on the advise of a ghost who came to live with me on Strand on the Green!!I packed up my mini Cooper and cats, and headed to L.A… It is where I learned to blend a little spirituality with my ample emotion. I was helped by a mystic man named Mathew Thomas who had a Psychic “ Home Chapel” Christian Church.
In Hollywood I wrote and recorded a lot of songs. I was fortunate to hook up with Jazz greats Dave Frishberg, Pearcy Heath, Harry “Sweets“ Edison. I am compiling the Best of that work in an upcoming cd “The Hollywood Years,“ leaving the original tracks and vocals of that time. In between then and now, I have been A visual artist..getting lost and found in COLOR.… painting in oils and dye on silk. I am now working on my new CD called " Boogie Woogie Woman".

CD Changing My Reality
author: Madeline I Johnson
Being a songwriter myself, I admire the work of Ann Stockdale on her CD, "Changing My Reality." In each song, her words are focused and poignant, and easily sets a mood for the listener. She utilizes a variety of genre and styles and I found that the mix of the blues, a tango, country and jazz all fit well together. The musicianship is incredible--wonderful. Sparse instrumentation, piano, a little rhythm, and horns and accordion on a couple of songs gives the listener an environment of a "worldly" journey. The CD artwork is vibrant and compelling as well. Very well put together. A definite for anyone's CD library.

WOW!!!!! This song cuts to the chase, as a very very great friend almost died last year, and I could understand the perspective. I liked the healing thoughts of the after-life.....
