Anomalous Quintet is the project of guitarist and composer, Jason Newsom, who formed the group in Portland, Oregon in 1997. Their second independently released CD, Life on an Oblate Spheroid, was released in 2005 and is quickly being met with critical acclaim. AQ plays unusually original jazz with elements of funk, blues, rock, and soul music, featuring syncopated horns and slap-funk guitar. Other members of the band include Michael York (tenor sax; The Temptations, Lou Rawls, Mel Brown), Daniel Covrett (alto & baritone sax; The Del Vikings), Kelley Albrecht (bass), and Paul Hunter (drums).
