“Every Part of Me” is a solid debut by a young singer/songwriter/guitarist, eager to make his mark on the music world. Rankin gives us eleven cuts that employ the sounds made famous by his classic rock predecessors.
“What I Live For” (essentially the opening track of his career as a recording artist) leads us in with a bouncy piano hook that builds into a tidal wave of guitar layers. As with most of the album, the lyrics are simple but memorable.
“Don’t Be a Stranger” begins with spoken words, as dark and moody verses climb towards a bright, explosive chorus. “Just Another Guy” follows with a fist-pumping, up-tempo beat and one of the catchiest hooks of all songs on the album. The song’s frenzied guitar solo displays Rankin's young, unbridled musical virtuosity.
Next up, “Set Me Free” is built on a unique off-beat groove and a clean guitar part reminiscent of U2; ironically, this song remains Rankin’s best selling digital download to date.
Following is the first of two ballads, the intimate “Turn Out the Lights,” which is for the most part an acoustic track, with the exception of an ambient slide guitar supplying subtle country undertones.
It’s not always the case, but the title track easily proves to be the best song of the album. The song’s instant catchiness and pop appeal have given it a permanent slot in Anthony’s live show, year after year. “Always Be the One” keeps the upbeat spirit going and is followed by a swinging power pop gem, “My Salvation.”
The trio of songs that cap the record carry its anthemic quality through to the end. “Reach for Me” comes complete with a short, sing-able chorus reminiscent of Bon Jovi. “Faded into Nothing” (the first "real" song ever penned by Rankin) borrows from Prince’s “Purple Rain” and ZZ Top’s “Rough Boy,” with melancholy lyrics and weeping guitar. The record finishes with the optimistic “Believe in Love” fading out over a ripping guitar solo.
This album is an exciting listen because of the songs' accessibility, the polished musicianship and production, but also because it is an early glimpse into the potential of Rankin as a contending rock artist for this generation.

Pop rock at its finest

This is one of the best CDs I have heard from an unsigned (independent) artist. It is amazing how much music we are not exposed to due to these giant corporate record companies not taking the time to listen and nurture a lot of these independent guys. This guy needs to be on a major label so the whole world can listen!
