Album Notes

What started out as a conceptual double album at the end of 2004 -- when Rankin began recording the follow-up to his debut 'Every Part of Me' -- became this taut collection of six tracks. [Many of the songs left over from the demo sessions were eventually rewritten and rerecorded for 'The Distance' (2007); a friend of Rankin's facetiously warned him had he waited much longer to release the EP it may have turned into a mere single.] Ironically, 'Cages of Fire' roughly remains Rankin's best-selling disc to date on iTunes and most other digital retailers.

On his sophomore effort, Rankin takes the sound of 'Every Part of Me' and cranks it up several (thousand) notches. The production is big and atmospheric, with histrionic keyboard pads and strings, heavily effected guitars, and Bruce Fairburn-inspired drums (no samples used, mind you); most tracks feel as if they belong in an action movie soundtrack. He also cranks up the hooks, at times seeming overzealous, but nonetheless supplying us with those Bon Jovi-esque choruses, tailor-made for car stereo sing-a-longs and bedroom air guitar competitions.

Key tracks: Trusted, Cages of Fire, Another Dead End

Another great effort

I so hope Anthony is on his way to stardom. This disc shows growth from his first. I have heard so many love songs in my life-some sappy, some pretty good-but "You Make Me" brings a warm feeling with each listen.

Incredible

The best rock I've heard in ages. I've listened to it 10 or 11 times already today. Truly a great CD.

The beginning of a pop revolution...
author: Perry
This disc, albeit an EP, has some of the strongest pop/rock songwriting I've heard in the last decade. Every track is as good as the next, and the depth of the record is incredible. The CD sounds and looks head and shoulders above most of today's major label artists, let alone the rest of the indie world. I spin this CD at least three times a day since I've purchased it, and it seems to only get better, and to only require even more listens! You'd be a fool not to buy this immediately. Rankin will surely be a star in the next few years, so get on the ball now!
