Pretty Blues is not a "garden variety" release of standards. No, It's a precisely chosen mix of ballads, blues and swing. Whith her song selection, Antoinette creates a mood that lets you know that what she has is special. Every selection is personal and a tribute to her mentors and to those who influenced her musically. And her mentors include the legendary Carrie Smith and our late, beloved Etta Jones.
A lesser singer might have shied away from recording songs taht are so indentified with others, but not Antoinette. I can listen to her renditions of "Dedicated to You" , "Teach Me Tonight", and "At Last", without longing to hear the versions by Johnny Hartman, Etta Jones or Etta James.
Humility and excellence is what Antoinette brings to her debut recording. It has been a long time coming but it was worth the wait.

Wanted to listen to this CD over and over again!!!!
author: C.Johnson
Listening to this CD, I found myself wanting to play it over and over again. I have been a fan of Blues and Jazz for a very long time, and this young lady makes me fall in love with the classics all over again. Reminds me of sitting in a old school jazz club, lights down low, and just letting the music take me away. The tracks are well laid and flow with each lovely note. A must for any true fan of blues, or those who are just learning to appriciate the art.

Bold and daring dreams yield an amazing, creative cd with a great new, fresh voi
author: T. Grady, music lover
Pretty Blues is an amazing cd whos singer gets to heart of the listner. Antoinette sings beautifully inside of the music with the musicians.
Excellent, creative work from Mulgrew Miller on piano, Bill Easley on sax and flute, and in the pocket support from Peter Washington and co-producer Kenny Washington provide a rich, lusty voice all the colors and texture an artist's canvas needs to that tells the story while pulling you into a warm, loving, honest, fresh voice that respects that we have been hit over the head enough with the hard sell.
This is an excellent recording that is destined to be a Jazz Classic one must have in your collection. T. Grady
