"Beware the children that you devalue, humiliate, abuse, reject and push out to the fringe, because out on the edge the air is clearer....and when they look back at you they'll see the truth." ~Anubis Spire
Concept album? Rock opera? Thematic song cycle? Yes, yes and yes. And then some. On the surface, CHILDREN OF A FOREIGN FAITH seems deceptively straight forward. At over an hour in length, it moves through it's sixteen cuts seemingly without time for a pause or even a deep breath. Each song leads immediately to the next, separated ocassionally by spoken word lead in's that require the listener to rise up above the fray and try to see the big picture in order to understand. The big picture is what this album is all about. Many artists have written compositions about child abuse and alienation but none have looked beyond the obvious with the all encompassing thoroughness that songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Bill MacKechnie has. Though cruel and deplorable, it's not just the immediate effects of abuse that Children Of A Foreign Faith addresses. MacKechnie has divided the songs into the sub-headings of: SURVIVAL, AWAKENING, THE WORLD and finally TRUTH. Each section deals with the specific effects of damage done and most importantly, just how that damage continues to ripple through all future interactions and even onto the world stage in the forms of fear, hate and violence. Starting on a very personal internal level, the story runs ever onward through troubled relationships, adult disillusionment, corporate greed, religious insanity and cut throat media manipulation, all the while making it clear that the same seminal principle of might-makes-right exploitation and human devaluing is at play. Once the pieces come together, it leaves us shocked and amazed that we've never recognized that simple fact before.
In the end, MacKechnie and ANUBIS SPIRE offer no magical solutions or feel-good validations, and the listeners are left to find their own truth.
Musically the band again avoids being pigeon-holed and tied down. They speed through diverse styles and genres as if they invented them. Everything from Mahavishnu fusion to Floydian dirge to Zeppelin celtic-acoustic; even Bill's venerable homebuilt ANUBITAR sitar/guitar makes an appearance in the Indian Raga-ish ETERNAL RESONANCE (Part Two).
I was blown away by the level of originality and sheer musicianship of their debut CD (Old Lions) but the band has honestly re-invented and out done themselves on this one. Bill, Tim, Mick and newest member, keyboardist David Sweet sound better than ever.
Featuring a cast of special guests that includes Saqqara Record's NEIL HENDERSON, MIKE WARD of TEMPORARY POWER, MARLON KEMPMANN of DOCTOR MEMORY, the ever-shadowy and elusive JP MACGREGOR among others, ANUBIS SPIRE have fashioned an album that will need more than a few listens to sink in but once it does, if you're like me, you'll have a hard time getting it out of your head.

The Best Band and Amazing release from year 2007. Highly recommendable...

Anubis Spire has come as a real surprise to my ears, after two releases, they come back wih a innovative approach that, certainly will put them in the premier league of todays progscene. The music is a mind expanding journey that combines spaces sound of Pink Floyd, with a rick and energetic Hard Rock elements, also crossing parts of a Classic Rock, Melodic Metal and of course, the best in Symphonic Progressive Rock. I can considers this work as success, a fine album, which maintain a good standard throughout and features rich instrumentation, including hooky songwriting, lots of atmospheric keyboards in all of their musical moments, also featuring a solid bass and a vibrant drums, complemented by melodic and lovely vocals, but the main highlights are on a variety of dreamy guitars solos, can be found in all compositions. Another fine album, especially for all the progressive rock fans, who always are looking for something different and very exciting. Brilliant and fantastic, an inc

Incredible piece of work !

It's a mystery why we are not hearing a lot more about this great band. You've got to hear this stuff! In my opinion, the sound tends to be more Pink-Floydish than anything else. The intricacy of the guitar work is stunning, the vocals set the mood, and all the band members work together as tight-fitting masterful contributors. It's seamless in its presentation, the sounds are incredible and flow as if effortlessly from these musicians. There are quite a few special effects which add to the dimension of the picture they paint. You can sit there entranced for the entire hour and forget about time. The message and tone are still relevant today, if not more so, due to all the conflicts and changes in the world. The album has a consistent concept which is presented thoughout, as if a continuous show flowing from one track to the next. It's as if you were taking a trip for a while inside their world. So if you haven't already heard this album, you're in for a real treat...

A Masterpiece. No Kidding.
author: Lee Davis
I have a theory. Great bands almost always have at least one highly idiosyncratic, outside thinking and brilliantly creative member that gives that band it's unique flavor and artistic vision. Think of each individual member of any legendary band in history and you'll begin to understand what I mean. You'll also begin to see that the while the visionary oddball gave the band it's originality, there were always be, for lack of a more diplomatic term, some very generic, good-but-nothing-special members whose simple workman-like musical skills helped to smooth the edges off the oddball's sonic angles and ultimately gave the band it's mainstream palatability. Are you with me so far? Okay, so here's my theory about why Anubis Spire isn't one of today's biggest bands: Anubis Spire is ALL oddballs. Listen to what each of them does within any given piece of their original music and you'll soon notice that there's not another guitarist, bassist, keyboardist or drummer in music today who would

Anubis Spire is INCREDIBLE!
author: Mike Ward
First, I want to say what an amazing honor to be a part of this CD...Bill is an amazing guitarist and is no stranger to the musical collaborations of Temporary Power. At times the musical creations could be interchageable between both of our music projects. What I have discovered is that Bill MacKechnie is not only a conduit for the electrical energy that music is, but is talented beyond words and Children of a Foreign Faith is not only a progressive rock dream, but also a fantastic musical haven for the fans of world class guitar playing. I am looking forward to working with Bill and Anubis Spire more and more in the future and presently I am drawing tons of inspiration from the cd as you will time and again with each listen.
