Album Notes

This third CD of nothing-but-stories once again features Andy’s Aunt Marguerite, that 80-something-year-old widow, recent medical school graduate, and chief-of-staff at Southern White Old Lady Hospital. On this record we’ll learn how Marguerite became a self-described “recovering racist.” We’ll discover how Andy created an undeniable ghost in the cemetery for his boyhood friends. We’ll find out what happens when a deer looks in a mirror. There are flying rubber snakes, smashed watermelons, leaping Milk Duds, falling mannequins and roped-in beauty queens. Andy is Foghorn Leghorn meets Lily Tomlin meets William Blake.

A native of Covington, GA, Andy started out in comedy, spending five years writing, directing and performing with SAK Theatre at Walt Disney World. When he returned to Georgia, he added music and storytelling because he had a lot more to say. He tours a lot, but when he's home he gets to be the host, storyteller, and audience trainer for the radio show, Evening Star, on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

For sixteen years he was Artist-In-Residence at Oxford College of Emory University where he still butts in during rehearsals and does theatre workshops from time to time. He has had lots of more interesting life experience-type jobs including - but not limited to - actor; camp counselor; political satirist; youth director; janitor; deputy voter registrar; theatre orchestra conductor; garbage man; teacher; carpenter's flunky; and bullfrog tadpole catcher (Honest).

Andy has been a featured storyteller at (but not limited to)…

A favorite

We heard Andy at the Four Corners Storytelling Festival in October, 2007. Our whole family loved his stories so much. We have listened to Book Every Saturday for a Funeral so much that it was time to add to our collection. Bootsie is also fun and meaningful to listen to. It is nice to find an artist who is humorous and appropriate. GO ANDY! We can't wait to hear what Aunt Margerite it up to next.

Great fun

My whole family loves Andy. He does for southern characters what Garrison Kiellor does for Minnesotans. If you grew up in the south you know these people. If you didn't, listen anyway -- the stories are wonderful and funny. Andy manages diverse and sometimes difficult topics with sensitivity and a rare wit. His CDs have become a favorite of my 12 year old son and I during our commute.
