Apotheosys n.(1) Ascention to divine status; deification (2)A glorified ideal
In 2001 guitarists Ethan and Ramsey (ex-Prelude to Damnation) would conceive of a project that would rip out the darkest and most vicious aspects from black and death metal and combine them, making music that was as blasphemous as it was brutal, as thought provoking as it was violent. Though not fully realized until the bands completion in 2002, what resulted was a sound not unlike the descent into the Abyss.
Both guitarists would spend the next few months conceiving of 7 songs that would make their mark on the metal underground. A drum machine was substituted for live percussion, Ramsey would step up as vocalist, and bass duties were split between the two guitarists. Completed yet rough and unrefined, the Apotheosys demo would find its way, via digital means, to Rob and Zac former members of the NC black metal band, Benighted. The decision was obvious and deliberate. Rob(bass) and Zac(drums) would complete the Apotheosys war machine.
What followed was an intense year of polishing and refinement. Between opening for such acts as Nile, Mortician, Hate Eternal, and Arch Enemy, Apotheosys made time to compile 5 songs from the original demo, with fat trimmed and a full lineup. The Fall and the Triumph EP combines the most raw and dark emotions of black metal with the most brutal and technical aspects of death metal into an undulating mass of cacophony. From the visceral intensity of 'Torn from Enlightenment' to the seething desperation of 'A Carrion Seed', Apotheosys drags the listener into an aural abyss, twisting and churning with rage and aggression. The Fall and the Triumph serves to show the world the intent of Apotheosys...
In the early months of 2004 Apotheosys parted ways with member Ramsey. Though with a major part of its mechanics missing, the machine must continue on and a few alterations to its make up must take place. With a vocalist and guitarist position to fill, it was quite evident that it would take time to find proper replacements. Long time friend to the band, James O'Neal relocated with Ethan and it was realized that the sound of Apotheosys could not be denied his talent. James would join the band taking over bass duties and Rob would move to guitar filling the vacant guitarist spot. With the major mechanics pieced together the band makes the decision to finish writing material for their next yet untitled release.
Due to personal reasons outside of the band Rob was no longer able to focus 100% on Apotheosys. In the late/early months of 2004/2005 Rob stepped down from the band as an active member to "manager" position. The second guitarist spot was filled by Trent McCall (ex-DarkMoon, Envenom Thy Winds).
