Album Notes

Apparatschik plays russian speed folk from merciless polkas and crooked tangos to sentimental lovesongs.
Based on the sound of the accordion and the balalaika, Apparatschik plays a rugged kindof dance music: energetic and fast, but sometimes melancholic too...

The band
Apparatschik was founded at the end of the 80's as a four-piece acoustic band. With balalaika, accordion, guitar and acoustic bass, they appeared at parties, street festivals and weddings: plugged or unplugged: no problem!
As the years went by, the band developed it's own distinctive style; the stages became bigger, and their travels more extensive...
By 1994 Apparatschik, now with a new and expanded rhythm section (drums!), had become one of Berlin's most popular bands with sold out concerts in town and growing fame all over the east. Now they will set off for the west: with their fresh and enthusiastic live-appearances and....with their first CD!

REVIEWS

Heck yes Apparatschik
author: Fraser
I dig this a lot. These guys have an excellent sense of dynamics, and they play with a natural tension and release that doesn't feel contrived like so many bands that do that one-second-of-silence-before-the-chorus. I don't know the language, but I shout along with gusto. The only issue I have with the album is that many of the songs are quite similar, with not a lot of variation in tempo or arrangement. This would be an asset, though, when the band performs live for a supremely danceable experience. Or for rocking out in your car maybe. Listen to the samples there, Kürbis in particular. If you like it, you'll love the album.
