Aprylle Gilbert is an artist who is passionate about her songs and life.Having grown up in a tumultuous environment with a complexity of situations in early childhood that left her perpetually struggling to find her place in life, Aprylle is no stranger to adversity. In her new CD entitled, Diamond In The Rough, Aprylle Gilbert reminds us that we are not alone on our journey, and regardless of where we are on our path, we all share the same life experiences. For example, in her featured song, Alive, Aprylle shares with us her own struggle in craving recognition and acceptance for her artistic talents from those around her.Too often we have taken early rejection or negative comments to heart and placed a greater value on them then they are really worth, needlessly limiting ourselves from following our dreams.
In Bye Bye Baby, she talks about those difficult times when we have found someone supportive but our relationship with them is starting to hold us back. We need to move on for ourselves but are concerned about the affect it will have on them. It is these kind of trials that become the foundation of what makes us stronger and what has gotten us to this point as she reminds us in the song, Speak. While we present an external image that we are doing fine and everything is going well, some of us have a gnawing sense that we are not where we need to be. Aprylle reminds us that regardless of how others may seem to you, we are all on the same journey to become who we are meant to be, to discover and live our full potential in life, and to never give up on ourselves.

A rare jewel

From the opening track ALIVE Aprylle hooks her listeners, with a sweat sirens voice and deep meaningful lyrics that take them on a pleasant journey. This isn't the first time I have heard these songs, nor will it be the last as each time I hear them I discover something new and wonderful about them. Some small nuance I hadn't previously known was there will suddenly jump out at me as I am lost inside the emotions and melodies of her music. Making me wonder why I haven't heard her on the radio yet. Wether it be the aforementioned
track, the tender lovers tale of TAKIN IT OFF or my personal favorite ONE MORE TIME AROUND, which blows me away with it's amazing vocals and uniquely popish structuring, telling an inspiring story of struggle and perseverance. I am stunned by this hidden talent. Each track calls to a base human emotion inside of the listener. Songs such as SPEAK-with it's heartfelt words of wanting to be loved and loss. BYE BYE BABY- which tells of loves labors lost from an honest standpoint, down to DON"T SAY ANYTHING, HOME BY EIGHT, MAKING A BELIEVER, and the final cut of the album SAY THE WORD all songs of the unconquerable power of love and the joy and sorrow that came come of it. It may sound corny, but as the song title blatantly declares, Aprylle has quickly made a believer of me, by offering songs that are real and touching. Honest like nothing I have ever heard before. It's because of this honesty and the passion that lies at the heart of the album that she
has made my list of favorite musicians, and I am sure that after one listen will be eagerly added to anyone with a hearts list as well. DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH is more than just a mere collection of songs, it's a testament that great music is indeed alive and well, waiting to be discovered.
