Albert Phillips & The Divine Messengers was organized in 1991 by Albert Phillips and Kevin Wheeler, then later joined by Mickey Slade, Tony Brown, Sidney Toland, Gerod, Sean Chase, Chris Robinson and Toy Greenhowe. All the members are from the Washington,D.C.area. Albert Phillips & The Divine Messengers, clearly reflects the beauty and versatility of God's power and love by performing traditional and contemporary gospel music. The group recorded its first album in 1996,97 and 98 on the Redemption Record Label which included the hit "Victory," that vaulted to number 18 on the BillBoard Gospel chart.The album earned them a GMWA Excellence Awards;for New Artist of the Year and Quartet of the Year, also a Dove Award for New Artist of the Year and a 1998 Soul Train award.The group has shared center stage with Dottie Peoples, The Mighty Clouds Of Joy,Robert Blair & The Violinaires, Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes,Canton Spirituals, Vicki Winans,Luther Barnes,Johnny Taylor,Candi Staton and many more top stars.
