"He That Hath an Ear, Let Him Hear" (HTHAELHH), a reference to Revelations 2:29, and 3:22, is a fitting title for Adrianne Archie's debut album. Gone is the responsibility of the artist to shape her sound to fit the homogenized group called "audience." Simply put, those who have spiritual ears will hear what the spirit says. Moreover, those who have musical ears will find the messenger so, so easy to love.

HTHAELHH is a genius musical revision of church service, in groove mode! (Can you say "The Roots?") The first interlude is a welcome song, which evokes the hugging and handshaking that occurs during black church fellowship. The album also includes devotionals that can be called anything but standard, and songs that pack the power of sermons. The album even ends with an invitation to salvation, in which Archie sings, "Why not take a chance? A chance on love?"

What is a church service without testimonial? "Always on Time," easily one of the most beautifully crafted songs on the album, is Archie's personal testimony about her miraculous recovery from spinal degeneration. In it, Archie adds a witness's whisper to a Dr. Dre-esque beat.

"Always on Time" is just one example of the combination of Afro-Christian adages with other musical influences. Herein lies Archie's genius. In songs like "It is Well," (preceded by Joel L. Goodwin's masterful keyboarding of the original song), "What a Fellowship," and "Saints Go Marching In" (a reprise to "Way Home"), Archie remixes the songs of her foremothers and fathers fiercely, bringing her generation's voice to the church service. These songs, laced with the wisdom and hope of a people forced to endure, are Archie's birthright. HTHAELHH pays tribute to the deacons and mothers of the church who sang their songs from the deepest pit of their bellies, armed with little more than a tambourine and the stomping of their work-worn feet.

Still, Archie is much more than a revisionist. Songs like "Way We Praise," "Aingonlechugo," and "You Never Change" illustrate her originality, her ability to interpret proverbs with a fresh sound. Remix or original, none of these songs would work without Archie's crisp delivery, her incredible range, her willingness to dilute her strong alto to a hush for effect, or her experimentation with rhythm and chant. Words alone can't explain the other sounds-the climbing up the musical scale, the twisting and turning of notes until they are something new altogether, the runs that seem infinite, the notes that start in the diaphragm and dance somewhere between a field holler and a grandmother's hum, the quiet notes sang in a clear falsetto that grow rocks in the throat and make the tears fall free. HTHAELHH is an example of what music mingled with ministry can be.

Adrianne Archie has grown from the pigtailed girl who sang standards with a woman's voice, shifting from one foot to the other, encouraged by church members shouting "Let him use ya!" She listened to their advice, laying "self" aside to become an open-mouth messenger, pushing sinners and self-proclaimed saints to recognize their similarities. In the end, we are all His children; we are all so easy to love.

    A great talent! This is a CD you must have. The CD actually would have been even better minus a few tracks that seem to be out of the vibe of the rest of the project. HOWEVER - this woman is a great talent and there are a number of very strong songs that should be (if not are already) on radio. I will be passing copies on to my friends as well.     I have only had the privledge of listening to the snippets and radio versions of this CD. This CD is so awesome! I am an album/CD lover...the liner notes keep you in touch with the artist and their motivaitons. The Lord really prompted the sound to come forth from Ms. Archie. I first heard "Who Jesus Is" on WHOV. 88.1, Hampton University a little while ago. The songs that really bless me are, "Who Jesus Is", "Always On Time", What A Fellowship" and "Jesus U Reign". She brings NuSoul Gospel to a level of accountability...to line up with the Word while keeping the flava.

    What I love about this artist is that she dares to be diffrent. The production is crisp and the lyrics are refreshing. Tracks like what a fellowship, always on time, take it, and way we praise are works of art. However the whole neo soul vibe gets a little tired after a while. A little bit of worship would have been good for switching it up a bit, and would showcase her vocal abilities. She teased me real good in the opening track.

In the standout track Take It, Archie spits "God has capabilities and the ability to make the impossible possibilities/ask anything and it shall be done" in a way that is similar to a hip-hop artist, not the typical, emoting Gospel singer. In an era where many albums have more filler than substance, Archie dares to challenge listeners with thought provoking, biblically based lyrics and REAL INSTRUMENTS. Yes, you heard me correctly, Archie even makes good use of the violin in the track "Way We Praise." Many songs and church services later, she's travelling the world in ministry -- and I couldn't be prouder.     When I heard this CD I was so moved spiritually I kept a copy in the stereo in the house and a copy in the car deck. As I listened to each song I discovered that Adrianne possesed more than than just a rare, original, and raw vocal ability. Adrianne has what I like to call a true anointing from our heavenly Father who knew exactly what he was doing when he created her. I feel blessed to have been able to hear such a well crafted work of art. "Praise Elevation" and Why not take a chance" are two of my favorites. When I heard the words to "Push Myself" I had to shout. That song helped me realize that there was something down in me that won't give in, that's gotta win cause now is not the time to throw in the towell and quit the fight, and now I know that the light in me has gotta shine. Thank you Adrienne for giving me hope again, and for also reassuring me that there are still people out here who are trying to make good, solid music for the Lord without taking the real meaning of praise and worship out of it.     Ok, where'd this sista come from? And how come this is the first I ever heard of her? The snippets for HTHAELHH simply amazed me. The vocal quality is stellar, mature and deeply seasoned. The harmonies and vocal arrangements -- well-crafted, original, refreshing. But I have always liked jazzy vocals on in my r&b (rather, rhythm-n-praise, in this case). The musical arrangements - AH! - unique, full-flavored, professional. This is tyte drivin', worhshippin', vibin', bouncin' music! I am very seldom moved to buy a CD from snippets, but Adrianne's joint HTHAELHH seems well worth the gamble. Lyrics are hard to assess when listening only to snippets, but if they are half as polished as everything else seems, we're looking at a "New Artist of the Year" for somebody's awards! I think everyone is pretty much on point giving this CD 5 stars.

Gone is the responsibility of the artist to shape her sound to fit the homogenized group called “audience.” Simply put, those who have spiritual ears will hear what the spirit says. Moreover, those who have musical ears will find the messenger so, so easy to love. ** HTHAELHH is a genius musical revision of church service. The first interlude is a welcome song, which evokes the hugging and handshaking that occurs during black church fellowship. The album also includes devotionals that can be called anything but standard, and songs that pack the power of sermons. The album even ends with an invitation to salvation, in which Archie sings, “Why not take a chance? A chance on love?” ** What is a church service without testimonial? “Always on Time,” easily one of the most beautifully crafted songs on the album, is Archie’s personal testimony about her miraculous recovery from spinal degeneration. In it, Archie adds a witness’s whisper to a Dr. Dre-esque beat. ** “Always on Time” is just one example of the combination of Afro-Christian adages with other musical influences.
