ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Insanity's Daughter is the brain child of writer/poet Arekah. Writing since the age of 7, Arekah used her life as fuel for her writing. An imaginative little girl raised by a single mother, there were many hours where this little girl had to spend time alone. In her alone time, Arekah created a world fairytale that would soon serve as the starting point for her persona. . In 1998, she gave birth to her daughter, Kyla, which changed her life for what she thought was the worse. During that time she revived her passion in writing by reading works by Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, and Sonia Sanchez. She also started singing in a small group founded by her Aunt Sylvia called True Spirit, there she gained some much needed vocal training and it gave her the opportunities of performing in front of large crowds. She kept her writing as a healing tool for herself and never shared it with anyone until a few years later when she saw Def Poetry Jam on HBO. It was the spark that she needed to share her writing with others; at one of her first performances she saw Samantha Raheem and local artist J’malo Toriel, their different styles really excited her and she new that this is what she was meant to do. Since that time Arekah has gone from reading off shaking paper on the mic to breaking her own barrier down and melting the mic. Arekah has offered her poetic voice to several causes around her city of Memphis, TN such as Turner South, “My South” slam, The Sisterhood Showcase, The Vagina Monologues Memphis, Breaking The Silence~Hear Her Speak I for AIDS/HIV awareness and Hear Her Speak II against domestic Violence. Her first cd Insanity’s Daughter aptly named to convey Arekah’s off brand way of thinking; she presents her vocal and spoken word talents to the world; Mixing in a little hip hop flavor with her own form of insanity to ensure the listener to a wild ride of poetic tracks, sure to leave them wanting more.

pure genius mixed with flavorful storytelling and heartfelt compassion
This CD has a variety of nice beats, but the storytelling is what captivates the listener. It has a nice flow and some strong messages that are meant to enlighten, inform and inspire....very nice project!

An adventure for the mind...It's great!
This CD is something unexpected but SO GREAT. You think you are just going to listen to the cd, only to be consumed by the emotions, strength, and fire that is brought out by the words and the voice of Arekah. I must say Suicide is my one of my favorite songs. "Who would guess that suicide could feel so good"...(you will understand when you hear it.) The CD leaves you at awe! It's definitely a must have CD!

Outstanding story teller
Arekah catch her listeners attention with Insanity's Daughter. As she spit word after word you feel the energy, pain, joy, and strength of her lyrics. This is a CD that one must have for their collection on those days you just want to sit back and relax...Insanity's Daughter can take you there... Keep, keeping it real my sister. Much love

Hearing you spit (almost LIVE) is much more Powerful then just reading your Written Words...

You make the listener truly FEEL what you are saying....listening to If I Were now...OMG I'm in tears it's so beautiful and moving

Suicide was Awesome 'Heard'...you have the Gift of drawing your listener in and making them sit up and take notice...not of you per se but...the Message...not everyone can do that...when I finished listening to it the first time...I had to rewind it and listen again to make sure I wasn't projecting what I was told...I wasn't...I could feel exactly why everyone would be in tears after that one...and the ending was Breathtaking!!!

I have had the privilege of hearing this THUNDERSTORM..and i have to admit, Arekah is a Bad ASS on the Mic... Not only is she a diva on the mic, she is that way in her everyday life, which makes her a spicy hot handful..
I love her work and will continue to recommend it.

The product of a genius!!!
I love this CD!!! It has something on it for everyone- a little hip hop and some awesome poetry!!! I love every track on it!!! The words are pulled deep from the soul of the poet describing past pains and present happiness. " Can we go back!" really takes me back to the way things were when I grew up in MS- Ice in tha Glass! Gotta have this CD if you love poetry! Peace~Queen Nilaja
