LYRICS *** Mystory Inside the Tree *** LYRICS

~ bird of paradise ~

slow down, heart starts beating too fast for her now
she is alive inside a wrinkling shell
she dwells on what she is no longer capable of
but rest her, rest her assured this will all be fine
it'll all work itself out in time
but she has swallowed her share of pills
for one long life

memories come back
whispers conjure angels
i can hear your wheels turning
all the way from where i stand

put to rest and we bow our heads down
put to rest my grandlady
put to rest i will remember her the way she was
put to rest my grandlady
i'm sorry it took so long for me to get back to you
the waiting was long but i found a way to get
back to your arms, back to the arms of the light

memories come back
whispers conjure angels
tomorrow is a promise we both kept
in the morning i will make you breakfast

curtain closes another door opens, i wait
sinful as i ever was i will be forgiven
so hold me hold me on your holy ground
don't be ashamed
hold me hold me this is the way it was meant to be

i love you i'll be there waiting on the other side
i love you i've been meaning to tell you
for the longest time
our last goodbye, you were taking flight
bird of paradise, bird of paradise

~ gypsy blood ~

bloody bloody bloody nose dive
into the shallow end to you and i
know there are sharks in your ocean
so i don't go there swimming after dark anymore

we look at the same cloud
you see you and me in elephant shoes
i say i only wish i could say the same
see i look up there and i see a tiny little dragon
trying desperately not to breathe flame
but i won't shed my gypsy blood
when evil red lava flows off your tongue

don't know why we stared as long as we did
when all i wanted was someone with eyes like him
and it won't go, cause i don't want it to go

we were to do battle i had adorned myself accordingly
every word was my soldier
and they were all armed in my defenses
even the fences i was straddling,
but then i openned my mouth to speak,
my army was gone
you had something over me
you had my heart

bloody bloody bloody nose dive
into the shallow end of you and i
know there are snakes in your garden
that's why i don't go there barefoot after dark anymore

our lips aren't moving, our ship is sinking
my ankles are anchors
i'm digging for the pearl
are you my oyster?

~ shoulder ~

slept not a wink all i could think was
all that i did think
the night before i lost my sh-t all over your floor
i sink into your words, into quick sand
i am in too quick to understand
i tried to find my self-control
long gone a long way on my strange stroll
i'm counting every step
this is paranoia at it's best

said it won't be long before you go back again
maybe i should go before you go dangling
dangling your worm

i am here on the floor
don't know what it is i am reaching for anymore
don't know which way i should turn
don't know which question i should ask
i am lying in my little brother's bed
i am thinking i could find some comfort there somewhere
i have my hand in the hole of his teddy bear
i don't know what it is i am reaching for
but i am reaching
by the skin of my teeth
i will make it through this leg of my journey

cradle me closer
i gotta go backwards now
i believe i went too far
unlacing naked faces
bodies masked in stain glass cases
they are throwing stones
but i never came across a creature like you
before the day that i met you
like an accident waiting to happen
i was into you from the start
tucked you away in my suitcase
for the trip that i never quite came back from
so keep that in mind

beauty in this world is as easy as you make it to find
keep that in your mind at all times

~ skeleton key ~

are you there am i talking to a doll
i pull the string and i let it go...

the miracle wasn't that the blind could see
but those with eyes see differently
and the miracle wasn't that the deaf could hear
but those with ears be listening
and the miracle wasn't that the paralyzed
would be on their feet again
it was you there on the street doing whatever you can
above and beyond

i haven't found a way to dodge my impulses as they come
i haven't found all the answers yet
i'm caught between the wall and an eight ball
second guessing my trust and i am
reinventing my trust

deja vu am i talking to myself
conversatiation having occured before
so i pull another feather from my side
and i dip the tip into the ink of my life
so i pull another feather from my side
and i let the wind, let the wind decide
which way i should go
and i let it all go

she looks up from the table to wake me
lines up her shot and every morning after
is some kind of morning after thought
she says you've gotta learn fast in this palace
cause there's treasure to be found so
pass that skeleton key to me
open is everthing
when open is me
pass that skeleton key to me

~ raisinwine ~

every day is white paper what will you make of it?
and knowing that of this life
who have you left to blame for it
it's all what you create
if you're tied and gagged who tied up and gagged you?
tapped fingertip on crystal ball glass
substance is always willing are you?
you are constantly put to the test
and i said just don't leave it on a bad note

i misplaced our secret handshake
and i can't fit more than my arm through your gate
the rest is up to you

shooting star, you are shooting a wink my way god
but i always have to touch the paint before it dries
and i'm here in my photographic mind doing time
laughing sadness out i will turn these raisins into wine

she is starving herself, moth drawn to a flame
she is restless behind them bars
meanwhile admired by all that passes her by
meanwhile all is passing her by
we are the hybernation

someone cut that flower but it don't belong in a vase
someone dry that man out, put him in his place
the world turned another day around for us
we all turned one day older today
if we stopped moving dead in our tracks
let the earth stop spinning
she could finally relax
you can finally relax now mother

~ flicker to fade ~

evolve and fade, born to grow you are
you are taking shape, disappear to tranquility
evolve and fade

you are hanging from the floor
and gravity is one sure thing around here
can't figure out why you're standing there still
isn't there any place that you'd rather be?

but you're never gonna get off the ground
till you get so high of your horse first

death is a flicker to a candle that's never been lit
and i imagine that when i die
i'd fly so free from my body and my mind, only soul
like lightning i am returning to the sky
to sky------
maybe when i get there i could be the ocean for a while
currently at peace------

no longer will your hands hurt
no longer can they hurt anyone

this is your soul hidden hunger
and if we could find a little bit of peace
maybe we could get the hell out of here

but you ain't never gonna get off the ground
till you get so high off your horse first

REVIEWS

definitely worth having, a beautiful and rare album

although ari's music is a bit different now than it was when this cd was made, it is DEFINITELY worth owning. the songs are beautifully written and excellently performed. it is only six songs, but is actually about thirty minutes of music, as the songs are complex and artistic, rather than produced for mindless, radio consumption. this is a good introduction to ari or a nice addition for fans. highly recommended

Street music find on a weekend winding down
author: Timothy Springer

I went to visit Cambridge to enjoy the likes of another folk artist playing in a club down the street only to become enthralled by Ari's voice echoing through my head (and the amps) on Harvard Square. She is a delightful gem and a very nice person. Her percussive folk style really drives the point behind her lyrics and her vocals and literally made me want to take her home with me immediately! :) Very glad she had (and i got) the cd!

mezmorizing, haunting,a gentle spirit

When my day is hectic and city people are being city people, I put in Ari's CD and it takes me away to a gentle place where there is kindness, beauty, and spirituality. There are days when I don't need to rush home to listen to her, this is when I enter the T station and I am gifted by her wonderful voice as she reaches out to the people on the platform and touches every wonderful part of our being and brings a sense of calmness about us.

ari's, "mystory inside the tree" has an edge sharp enough to cut your heart in two...with a distinct guitar style and lyrics and melodies of masterful wisdom, ari is an intense artist and this first record of hers reflects that...i am unpatiently awaiting her next release...
