Ariana Hall is a singer with a brilliant voice that melts the heart and invades the soul. Her new EP – Not Too Close, Not Too Far is a superior offering from this talented young singer. This is a collection of songs that quite literally blow you away. This is music at its very best. Reminiscent in style of Shelby Lynne Ariana mixes pure country with a stunning combination of pop and soul to create the most wonderful collection of songs. My only regret is that this is only an EP containing five tracks and not a full album. Five tracks are just not enough! The opening track entitled Lying Again is a bold, striking offering that shows the listener exactly what Ariana is made of. Ariana’s strong vocals give this track a real edge. Ariana really knows how to belt out a song. The lyrics here are clever and Ariana’s vocals start off the track sounding like pure country but as the track progress they go up a notch and the song becomes something of a pop/rock anthem. Insulated is a gentler number than the first track on the EP, with a haunting melody and delicate musical backing. This is a powerful number that really gets under the listener’s skin. This song is beautiful and tender in both style and sound. This is a song that will melt even the hardest of hearts. Personally this is my favourite track on the EP because it feels so raw and full of emotional tenderness. You Never Made It Good is a rousing number with a slight blues edge to the music. Ariana’s voice is bold and rousing, with a sensual quality to it. This is a powerful number. Ariana’s voice is commanding and really makes you sit up and take notice of her and the music. See How I See You sees Ariana change styles once again. This song has a much more traditional feel to it. This is a song filled with heartbreak and despair. The lyrics are heartfelt and the song has a really genuine quality to it. Country fans will adore this song. Ariana sings this song as if it comes from the heart and puts a lot of emotion into it. Like Rain is the final track on this EP and is another song with a traditional country feel to it. Ariana’s voice is once again strong and commanding. This is a lovely track to finish on as it really seems to lift the listener’s spirits. This song has a fresh energy about it. Ariana has a fantastic voice, which shines through on this mesmerising EP. Her songs are varied in content and show a wide range of music influences and styles. A full album from this talented artist is a tantalising prospect. Top quality songs, vocals and lyrics make Ariana a shining star for the future, not just of country music but music in general. I cannot praise this short collection of songs enough.
