Ariel's Worm on their way with "The Next Big Thing".
author: Rikk Matheson
The stream of sounds blended together with style and finesse. Each tune scurries through your speakers with only one goal in mind, good music.
On the CD, the stunning voice of Jennifer Strype has an air of Gwen Stefani. The band put together simmering guitar work, solid backbeat and rhythm, and a fresh voice that cries to be heard. Ariel's Worm have been cutting their touring teeth opening for such great Canadian acts as See Spot Run, Big Sugar, and Kim Mitchell. With the energy and commitment put forth on the disk, one can only imagine the live show being a spectacle.

If you love Avril Lavigne but wish she was of age, this album is for you. If you love the new Our Lady Peace but you think their old stuff was too edgy, this album is for you. If you can appreciate inspired and well-crafted songwriting, even when it's hidden under layers of Pop-friendly production, then this album is for you.
The Next Big Thing is full of excellent pop-rock, played with radio-friendly flawlessness and sung with the skill and maturity of a veteran Canadian band. I would not be at all surprised if Ariel's Worm actually becomes 'the next big thing', because they sound exactly like you'd imagine the next logical progression in Canadian rock radio. Hooks are abundant, and there's just enough uniqueness in the band's delivery to stand out in a genre where bands are rewarded for assimilating with their peers.
If you prefer Max Webster over Kim Mitchell, this album is not for you. But for most people, this is a hard-rocking, uplifting record that provides the ideal soundtrack for driving down an open road in summertime, filling commercial breaks between NHL playoff commercial breaks, or best of all, seeing Ariel's Worm perform live.
Enjoy it now, so that once they break, you can say "I knew them when..."
