Band grows and proves it
author: Mike
If a band is growing musically, their music needs to reflect that change. Many bands make claims and fail to live up to their own hype. But the hype surrounding this Detroit, Michigan band is not over the top and is well deserved. After a line up change and the successful release of their full-length album 'Womb', Arizing displayed their diverse influences and ability to touch on every emotion in the spectrum in just one song. Going from subtle melodies to what sounds like an all out war, while incorporating numerous influences from ska and emo, to nu-metal and grunge, Arizing have forged their own sound and niche in the music community. With the release of their new EP 'Advance' Arizing has pushed those boundries even further. In doing so, they have uped the melody in their sound and made the moments more explosive. The opening track 'False Semester', which would be a single on any major-label record, has a steady build up of melody with lyrics that most people could identify with. The second track 'Pinky Swear' has a bouncy feel to it and is very unique in the contrast between the instruments and vocals. Eventually, this leads to a soft moment that turns into what feel like cries for help. Very powerful. Next up, 'The Big L (Falling in Love Again)' shows the bands diverse interests and ability to make any style sound like them. The 80's new wave inspired song is very straight forward unlike the first two tracks but is a very touching song, and also incorporates some programming pieces. Easily their most accessible track. The final track 'Sour Patch' is clearly the best song on the album though, as well as the most rocking. This song will be sure to have heads bobbing and a pit or two break out. The whole song is a build up to the explosion of angst at the end. A preview of things to come? Who knows. But this album proves this band has what it takes. Dont miss out and pick up this album!

Energy laden, guitar driven sensibility, harmonic lyrics, with memorable chorus
author: Dave Dalton
Advance brings a multitude of musical ideas and influences into a new genre that melds solid guitar work with thoughtful lyrics, singalong harmonies, and heartfelt delivery. Dynamically produced to offer both the subtlety of voice against a single guitar and the full blown power of a hotrodded Marshall stack, Advance delivers a forceful combination of thump and melody. Upfront vocals matched with well constructed backup lines are anchored by an insistent bass/drum rhythm section and underlying background fretwork. Utilizing hooks and twists in tones and pacing, Advance rediscovers the art of song "arranging" that allows each song to stand up to repeated listening. Besides, Sour Patch reminds me of the 60's Ann Arbor, Mi band, SRC, complete with Scotty Richardson's vocal styling and Gary Quackenbush's Les Paul. That makes it worthwhile, in and of itself. Good Job, kids....
