Album Notes

xARKANEx is a solo project predominantly arranged by Pandelis (xIkonx), better known for his contributions to the disbanded pagan metal outfit Fiendish Nymph, and a former member of the Greek neo-folk outfit Daemonia Nymphe, whose debut CD was published by Prikosnovenie (France). Arkane differs from these previous projects in that Pandelis explores more ambient based expressions which culminate into a soundtrack of one man's mysterious and fantastic imaginitive world.

Arkane's debut album, with the Fossil Dungeon, is a tapestry of various influences ranging from the bombastic and ritualistic to the melancholic and majestic, all woven together by threads of ambient atmospheres that reminisce of old Hellenic traditions. Inspired by the forgotten mystery cults and mythologies of ancient Greece, Arkane sets out to ignite the spirit of the past through its meditative compositions.

"One cannot help but envision an etheric spirit dancing through a ghostly dance from time immemorial."
- Legends Magazine (Mike Ventarola)

"The greatest Neo-Classical artist, I´ve heard for a very long time."
- Back Again Webzine

"A strange, esoteric marriage of dark ambient and folksy occultic (that brings Raison D'etre and Death in June to mind)."
- Morbid Outlook Webzine

REVIEWS

Doom-laden ambience
author: the Jax
Mostly quiet, even relaxing soundscapes...but something is strange...these tracks are subtly evil in a way you only realize AFTER they end and you are sitting in SILENCE. You may break out in a cold sweat, or just feel like drowning yourself. (That must be the secret of the "Temptress Sirens".) Definitely mood music. Add half a star for cool packaging (not shown).

Each piece of the xARKANEx projekt is brilliantly woven together as a monumenta

WOW! I love the black DVD style CD case! The captivating High Priestess image on the front slip cover with an ancient and timeless look to it...seemingly inviting me in. This projekt demands the attention and utmost deserving respect of the listener....who is much like an active participant. The mesmerizing dark voices combined with the beautifully romantic, symphonic and ethereal tones, create an atmosphere which draws me in to an almost possible journey to another place, another world, another time. I'm not sure which piece is my favorite, I'm absolutely in love with "Summoning The Muse." The whispers I hear in Greek 'calling' in the background, initiate a welcoming sense of undeniable submission. When I hear "Ambience of the Moon" I feel a wonderfully foreboding sensation of a journey to an unknown destination or upcoming event I cannot see...but I feel it coming. Absolutely chilling! When I hear the dominantly dark combustion of "Arcane Elitism" the images I receive in my mind are of a massive gathering surrounded by ancient stone deities draped in colorful cloths billowing in a slight breeze. There is a rising sense of urgency, possibly in preparation of a community ritual dedicated to paying homage the Gods...then instant silence. Very impressive indeed! I truly feel each piece of the xARKANEx projekt is brilliantly woven together as a monumental atmospheric tapestry of another place in time...a place possibly within reach, yearned for, and adored. ~LadyDeraX
