Album Notes

Arnie Sykes is a rapper, comedian, actor and artist. He used his vast knowledge of all things television and the omni-flavored sauce that is Pop Culture to create "The Original Pranksta Rapper" - Arnie Sykes. His debut album, TV Junkie, released in 2002, is the fusion of his love for comedy and his roots in R&B, rap, and hip-hop.

Born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, Arnie Sykes grew up writing, drawing, and watching television. He graduated from a prestigious Southeastern university, where he was first exposed to improvisational comedy, a skill he quickly mastered and continues to hone in Austin, Texas. Arnie Sykes has performed locally with fellow musicians and improv comedians Jerm Pollet ("Every Song is a Mating Call") and Owen Egerton ("Big Thick Wooden Board"). Discussions with musician/producer Huey Esquire, slated to produce Egerton's follow up record, lead Arnie Sykes and Huey Esquire to the collaboration that resulted in the debut album.

"TV Junkie" is not a parody album. Rather, it is the fusion of Arnie Sykes' endearing love for comedy and his roots in rap, hip-hop, and R&B. This is evidenced by the variety of offerings on the LP, including the upbeat and infectious first single "Michelle," in which Arnie Sykes gives love to all girls named Michelle, from celebrities to the lesser known. Other tracks include the love letter ballad "Wanna Make Beyoncé My Feyoncé"; the self-promoting "Good Props," featuring roots rock diva Theresa Andersson ("No Regrets"); "Changed Overnight (Like A Gremlin)," the tale of a girlfriend gone bad; and the South Florida/Dirty South-influenced "Who's Ya Daddy?"

This CD is just awesome. My favorite song is the party hit Who's Ya Daddy, but the other songs are a lot of fun, too! The Beyonce tribute is a lovely ballad with funny lyrics. For a first CD, it's very well-produced, well-written and Arnie can really sing! Very impressive.

I think Arnie Sykes's TV Junkie is a funky hilarious collaberation of songs that make you laugh and your stomach hurt from all the muscles you pull from laughing. I love the originallity in it. The songs that stand out for me the most and that will make anyone listening to it just burst into laughter is the song called Who's ya Daddy?. It's like a comedic rendision of all those Dirty South Atlanta Booty shakin' club songs that make you dance but with comedy twist. The first time I heard it I thought; Man, he's a character. So much comedy; and that voice that puts chills of laughter in your bones while making you shake your head thinking this guy watches too much TV. His voice alone in that song is priceless. The song I want to make Beyonce` my Fiance is down right funny. After listening to this CD it truly stands by it's title TV Junkie.

I like this CD because it's like a total performance, it's very well-produced, with a solid "beginning/intro" and an "ending." It's not just a collection of songs, it's like listening to a soundtrack from a really great musical. I love listening to this CD, especially "Toons, Toons, Toons."
