Songs From Dreamland

by Robin Arquette & Lois Duncan

SONGS FROM DREAMLAND is made up of eighteen lullabies. The lyrics and narration were written by award-winning author, Lois Duncan, while her musician daughter, Robin Arquette, composed the music and performed each song. Soft narration precedes every track, leading into songs like the Gaelic-sounding , “Wind Song” and “Ship in the Night,” which also has a Gaelic lilt. Every song has a folksy, breezy feel that is gentle and tranquil; perfect for bedtime. Poetry comes to life as children are encouraged to wish upon stars while being told tales of fairies, rainbows, and silver-flecked stardust.

A Set of Treasures for Music Lovers
a review by Julie M. Prince - 2008
Sometimes I’m lucky enough to stumble upon something I thought I might like but that I actually love. Usually, given the nature of who I am, it happens with books. This past weekend, it happened with music.

Three CDs gave me such pleasure, I just had to share the treasures with the readers of YA (& Kids) Books Central. In my experience, those who like to curl up with their children to enjoy good books, also like to expose them to the best music.

Equally soothing is DREAMSONGS FROM YESTERDAY. These nineteen tracks are composed of old, traditional lullabies narrated by Duncan and sung by Arquette. Here you’ll find favorites like “Rock-A-Bye Baby,” “Brahms’ Lullaby,” and “Beautiful Dreamer.”

Lastly, but my favorite, is OUR BEAUTIFUL DAY. One long story is told over the course of fifteen tracks and linked by fabulous narration. From a child’s awakening, getting dressed, and a trip to the playground to calling Grandma, cranky time, and teeth brushing, the tale is told in a non-patronizing method that will ensure enjoyment by parents and children alike. Be sure to play track “Hello Mr. Shoe” for a giggle-inducing time full of preschool humor.
