Album Notes

Arthi Meera's vocal-centric, stripped-down sound is likely the result of a background in North Indian classical voice and a steady diet of Britpop and shoegaze since adolescence. Combining her gentle pop tendencies with producer Ethan Stoller's experimental leanings, her debut reflects a selection of influences unique to her.

Lovely!! A must hear album. Arthi music will blow your mind away to fantasy and dreamy state. It's soothing and really leave me breathless everytime i hear to silty sea, and insulation. It's magical, a pure talent.

I know that the point of folksy music is to "rock" and not to "soothe" but still, the music is soothing and I appreciate that. I also really like the clear, honest, unnaffected way she sings as well as her guitar playing.

I'm in awe of this CD. I love the minimalist instrumentation. Arthi's voice is so pure and haunting, it puts me in a trance each time I hear it. And, because the CD has been playing non-stop, I've heard it a lot lately!

Beautiful, haunting, ...with yearning melodies and intricate chord progressions

I love this album. And I love very few albums. And I write even fewer reviews (please forgive my awkwardness...) This album was produced by Ethan Stoller (Dynamite Ham, V for Vendetta closing credits song), and the combo of their talents is a perfect match. The subtle instrumentation is absolutely beautiful and the whole album has a dreaminess to it that is like a liquid lullaby (fluid and floating...). My favorite song is Pink and White and Grey, though many others are competing w/ it for #1 the more I listen. This will be in my small rotation of necessity CDs. Oh and did I mention Arthi's voice? She has one of those voices that stays with you--like you want to hear her do a cover of every song you know. My only reason for 4 stars (instead of 5) is that the lyrics are not always ones I personally connect with, especially mid-album, as much of it is about the struggles of loving or wanting someone unattainable (my quick description, though i hate to sum anything up! sorry!). But many songs use very interesting imagery and metaphor (Silty Sea, Pink and White and Grey), or have lyrics that are compelling and/or soothing (Wander Away, The Worse Crime, In My Head).
