Album Review from City Weekly:

Articulate
“Against the Current”
RemovementRecords.com

The driving was chaotic and the weather was a bitter 18 degrees, but Articulate and the rest of his crew responsible for Removement Records somehow made it to their photo shoot with local photographer John Shartrand.

Articulate’s first full-length album, “Against the Current,” will drop March 10 with a release party at Shea Rileys, an event that is highly anticipated. Thankfully, a few advanced copies were burned and enthusiastically thrown into select CD players and computers all over Omaha where Removement Records was formed in 2005.

Joining forces with local artists DJ CMB, Bobby Danjerfield, Jamazz (ADF), Beta and Taka ( ’NuffCrisis), Articulate has nailed this debut. The album starts off with an intro filled with tribal drums, the sound of tidal waves crashing into the shore, and CMB cutting the wax like a man possessed. “The Voyage” follows with the same fierceness Articulate has displayed during his live shows time and time again.

The cuts are on time and the lyrics are spit with “the vocal tone of Nas and the flip-tongue style that is so prevalent in the Midwest,” according to one previous review.

“Against the Current” is reflective, insightful and intelligently written. In a genre such as hip-hop/rap it is important to have something to say as well as a phat beat. Articulate continues to shine until the last second of the last track, “Face Full of Rain.”

Call it his “original thesis,” Articulate deserves an A for “Against the Current.” Catch Articulate, Bobby Danjerfield, CMB, ADF and special guests at Sokol Underground Thursday, March 16. Go to RemovementRecords.com or OnePercentProductions.com for more info.
