About Artie Traum and Thief of Time
Guitarist and songwriter Artie Traum has been called an “intensely talented observer of life” who creates a “hip fusion of folk and jazz” (Jazz Times). Thief of Time delivers 11 new tracks that take Artie’s unique folk-jazz style further than ever before. Traum is supported by A-Team players Tony Levin (bass), Warren Bernhardt (piano) and Gary Burke (drums). John Sebastian adds baritone guitars on When You Insult A Man, while Joe Flood, Kenny Edwards, Wendy Waldman, Amy Helm, Teresa Williams and Jim Photoglo provide vocal and instrumental support. Multi-platinum recording artist Donna Lewis brings her vocal skills to the Brazilian groove on Back In The Sugarcane. This album features solid grooves and improvisation which stretches the music beyond the normal singer/songwriter concept. It's alive, funky and brilliantly conceived.
“The challenge for me was to find elements of American styles to create something original. I’m interested in expanding genres and stretching the limits of acoustic guitar.” Artie Traum said in a recent interview on WAMC.
Thief Of Time is the follow-up to South of Lafayette which landed Artie Traum a feature interview on NPR’s All Things Considered and international airplay. Traum has been described as “one of the great players of any era” and Jazz Times called his style “elegant folk-jazz.”
“I went for a live feel, of musicians actually playing together,” Traum says. “On songs like Cuckoo and Thief of Time we got into intense grooves.”
Thief of Time is a tour-de-force of Americana with a touch of jazz.
