i wrote about “love” at the young age of seven. my stanzas had dimensions and wordplay that other kids in my class did not understand. i understood love the way that i understood writing. i was captivated by writing utensils moving across smooth surfaces in order to create unpredictable masterpieces. i fell in love with writing. i could go on to tell you where i was born, where i was raised, the struggles i have faced, the poems i have had published, the speeches i have delivered, the degrees i have, the passions i hold, and all of the things a normal bio page should contain. as i type this, all of the letters that start a sentence are underlined in red. in other words, the document is trying to correct me for not using proper grammar. life is like this… society is always trying to “correct” something. so at times i choose not to capitalize my “i” – and i don’t need to be grammatically correct when i speak. there is no way to summarize my life in one writing session, which is why i am a spoken word artist. i will reveal myself slowly through my words. listen…
