Album Notes

With their debut album „Negative White“ (2003), the german-french gothic rock band Arts Of Erebus made their name known to the gothic scene even across the borders of their two home-countries and had a clubhit on lots of gothic floors with the song „Children of the Night“.

In 2006 Arts Of Erebus released a free download single „Thousand Ways to Die“, which also contained a new recorded version of „Children of the Night“ and a live-videoclip. Now the band presents their long awaited second album „Icon in Eyes“.

Arts Of Erebus did develope their sound into a more rock orientated and more powerful style with a clear increase of speed. But even with this new power and the integration of style elements from classical gothic rock guitars over modern electronic elements up to influences from punk music, the compositions by Arts Of Erebus still keep the feeling of the melancholic gothic-rock of the early 90s.

The sound of Arts Of Erebus is defined by the characteristic singing of singer Damien, who rich of emotions interprets the composings of guitar-player Michel Meneguzzi. A driving bass fundament and backing vocals come from the new band member Tommy (also known as producer and former guitarist of Adversus and owner of the label Sonorium). The band‘s lineup is completed by second guitarist Regis and the new keyboard player Stephane (known in France by his electronic project Marboss).

The song „Dawn of the Dead“ handles a classic horror movie theme from a completely new point of view, which will be visualized in the upcoming videoclip for this song. Beside „Thousand Ways to Die“ this strongly danceable song will find its way to the gothic clubs.

Tracks like „In my Eyes“, „Wings to Grey“ or „Innocent Dreams“ are for the lovers of traditional gothic rock sound, and tracks like „Brotherhood of Sleep“ or „End of the Gun“ are straighter and faster with undeniable influences from other music styles across the gothic-border.

Calm and melancholic melodies show up in „Falling Down“ and „Zeit & Traum“, whose melodic structure is perfectly counterpointed by the cawing voice of guest singer Rosendorn (known as the mastermind of Adversus).

Under a Pale Moon

Catchy gothic sound, less electro, than in the previous CD, more rock and deadly oriented. I was surprised by this new work from the Art of Erebus. They learnt the lesson well, and although it's far from being original and mature, it's full of tracks that will conquer your ears.
