Album Notes

A winner at last year's Hank Williams Songwriting Contest in Georgiana, Alabama, Arty Hill plays 50s/60s-style country music in Baltimore, Maryland with his band, the Long Gone Daddys. Arty's first release, Baltimore Reasons, includes acoustic versions of ten original songs, ranging from rockabilly and country swing (Big Daddy's Rye, Livin' on the Road Again) to George Jones-style shuffles and ballads (Baltimore Reasons, Crystal Put Down The Pistol). Ten fine tales of barrooms, bedrooms, and Baltimore.

Welcome Arty

I heard this compact disc during the Black Sunday shopping day in November playing in-house at a hardware store in Breezewood, Pennsylvania. I went to the clerk and asked him who it was. He informed me that it was a CD by Arty Hill from Baltimore. I have always been a fan of Eddy Arnold since my youth in North Platte, Nebraska. Now, I wouldn't say that this is very Eddy-ish, but it evokes that time in music when a soaring voice could liberate your soul! I'm now a fan of Arty and have both of his discs. I hope someday to see the man and his band live! Until then Arty - Follow that dream!!

Raw storytelling stuff. Get Arty Hill to hear BOTH Guthries reincarnated with Ea

It's no surprise to read that Arty's first was found by his first CDBaby reviewer in the aficionado's PICKS(above)--but let's hope this musician's musician will get the larger audience he deserves. "Love is a gamble/odds run with the house" as he writes--but Arty Hill is a sure bet worth a listen and then ... double or nothing ... a Relisten. Raw storytelling stuff. Arty Hill reincarnates BOTH Guthries with Eastern Shore Maryland trouble and depth.

This CD is a great buy. The songs are stick to your ribs, and Arty has one of the purest voices I've heard in a long while. Saw Arty perform in a small restaurant in Baltimore and was blown away. Check him out if you get the chance.
