About LIGHT: hymns revisited
Aryn has taken her alternative pop style and used it to craft modern arrangements to serve as a contemporary backdrop for the timeless lyrics of classic hymns.
Biography:
Aryn Calhoun began writing music at the age of 15 years old and now she just can’t stop. She’s thus far written, co-produced and released seven albums of her own original material. Many describe her style as alternative pop with a flavor of country and a pinch of jazz. Not only does she write music but she sings, plays the piano, guitar and is picking up the harmonica!
Aryn began her love for music early in life singing in church. She participated heavily in the arts through public school participating in band, choir, ensemble and solo competition, chamber choir, musical theater, and theater. In high school she won first chair Alto II in the Texas All-State Mixed Choir and in 2005 was named Best Actress in the Betty Buckley Awards for North Texas high school musicals for her role as Peter Pan in \"Peter Pan.\"
Aryn chose to go to college to pursue a degree in music from Southwestern University. At Southwestern, she was able to land an internship in the music business world in Nashville, TN. While she was interning at Word Records in Nashville she teamed up with professional producer Drew Cline to release two cutting edge tracks \"Be Strong\" and \"The Drone.\" During her time at Southwestern, Aryn released 5 albums of her own original songwriting material all recorded and produced with the help of other Southwestern University students. These ablums included \"Sitting Under the Son\" (2003), \"The Cove Concert Live\" (2004), \"So Many Sparrows\" (2005), \"Profound\" (2005), and \"The Torturous Delight\" (2006).
Aryn graduated from Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in Music and Communication.
After graduation, Aryn worked on a jazz influenced EP called the \"Ruby Room\" with producer Neal Mann that is not yet released. During this year, Aryn worked for the AmeriCorps*VISTA program during the day and on nights and weekends focused on touring around Georgetown and Austin, Texas. After a year of working and gigging, Aryn decided to go back to school for Master\'s work.
