Luminous Flux

by Abebi Stafford & Bayorhythm

The fusion (figuratively and literally) of supple keyboard, groovacious bass and pounding pocket drums, is reminiscent of Chick's Return to Forever and a more melodic Miles' Brew

Album Notes
Having a broad range of experiences, Abebi has played with Russell Malone, accompanied vocalist Deborah Brown, gave Kenny Garrett a piano lesson, and has even been solicited by André 3000 from Atlanta based Outkast for his musical expertise on several occasions. "Even his name swings!" pianist Kenny Werner said of Stafford to friends after hearing his solo piano work and meeting him for the first time. Saxaphonist Joel Frahm (Jane Monheit) said after playing with Abebi, "I haven't heard many pianist with his strong sense of time and to me, that's the most important thing."

Bayorhythm is not only a group, but also a concept. It is a concept derived from, redefinition, freedom, beat, expanse, interaction and theory.

Luminous Flux
While Mr B's first album was very strong, this is a quantum leap. Of course, I'm a sucker for electric piano anyway. He has not only absorbed his influences very thoroughly, he is becoming his own musician. The only reason I only gave it four stars is that I want to save upward room for his next.

Great find... funky, mellow, rhythmic
This CD is a great find!!! Bayorhythm adds a little funk to Abebi Stafford's mellow, rhythmic style. Excellent follow up to the Mr. B cd, which I also bought. I highly reccomend it to anyone that enjoys listening to jazz!

smooth, smooth, smooth
I've been looking forward to Abebi's next album since Mr. B. This is even better and shows his maturity; it's going to be great following his musical career. Come along for the ride!

I didn`t like jazz at all - till I listened to Luminous Flux
I always disliked jazz for being no real music to my ears and having no clear line in it. But Luminous Flux has got some very cool kind of beats and rhythms in it and I really like to listen to it.

Good stuff- traditional and somewhat progressive jazz sound,,,, the way I like it.

First CD was Good, Second CD with group verry Cool
ABEBI STAFFORD & BAYORHYTHM: Luminous Flux is a very cool CD. He is really in his zone on the cut "Be's Groove". I especially like the addition of his backup group Bayorhythm. Would like to see/read more about them on his website. Abebi's renditions of 500 Miles High and NAIMA highlight his piano skills.
