Barbara Ashbury, was born in northeastern Ohio, a musician from childhood in a non-musical family. Retaining her sense of individuality and non-conformity, Ashbury was a classically trained
clarinetist. She completed a Bachelor's in Music Education at Ohio State University with the goal of helping people grow through music, and she taught music for several years.
As a multi-instrumentalist and composer, Ashbury co-founded the Hammered Music Duo in the early 1990's, a hammered dulcimer duo that toured extensively, primarily on the East Coast and parts of the Midwest. Ashbury produced the group's nine albums and arranged/wrote all the music for each album.
Throughout the 90's the HMD was successful with their CD's, performing at art festivals and street fairs, developing a loyal fan base and appearing on local television and radio stations. Ashbury's dream of being a full-time musician had become a reality.
While Barbara Ashbury's creativity was blossoming, she discovered Iridology and became passionate about the healing arts, studying Herbology, Sclerology, the use of Essences, and Energy Work . She became a licensed Reflexologist, and the seed for Higher Light Music was planted.
By 1999, Ashbury had mastered the Celtic harp and was inspired to pursue a solo career. She founded Higher Light Music, composing and performing the music for her 2000 debut CD, Silent Rose. Conceived as a contribution to the healing arts, she feels Silent Rose represents a turning point for herself, both personally and musically, a culmination of her studies and passions. Her music appeals to a wide audience, from massage therapists to yogis, from Lamaze instructors to stressed parents, as well as doctors in need of soothing music for their patients, or those
simply looking for lovely romantic dinner music as a background to an enchanting evening.
Fluent in the universal language of music, Ashbury has traveled to Japan to share her talents, and her music is enjoyed in the U.S. and Canada as well as the U.K. and India. Barbara Ashbury continues to tour, and she performs for private functions, charity concerts, and art and music festivals. For her next project, due to be recorded in 2003, Ashbury is preparing an album of lullabiesËinspired by stories of parents who enjoy Silent Rose as a bedtime ritualË and for all of us, who could use a better way to relax gently into sleep.
