Album Notes

Eccentric musical recluse Ashley Holt returns with a collection of hummable pop tantrums archived in his hillbilly hideaway studio known as The Brown. Phillipshead marks a return to the stripped-down, hook-riddled songcraft of Holt’s early years in the 4-track underground, compiling manic bursts of quirky pop hysteria with an energetic, “live” sound. Sometimes known as the “one-man They Might Be Giants”, Holt produces a neurotic blenderizing of Beatle pop, stagedive hardcore and showtune vamp that throws imaginative curves with its hyperactive chord changes. As with his earlier releases, Gargle of the Spartanites, Four-Hankie Triumph, et al, Phillpshead also features several sample-based, found sound compositions and performances on homemade and unorthodox instruments.

Ashley Holt, it should be noted, is also incredible handsome and charming and often rescues children and puppies who have fallen into wells.
