Ashtray Boy pays a musical tribute to The Euro, not only saluting those countries that took up the currency in 2000, but also in recognition of the lesser known wallaby from Australia that inspired the whole movement (ref: Barrow Island Euro).
"The Euro" showcases songs of sadness and departure written with stumbling prowess in 8 different languages to reflect upon the fear of loss of national indentity through loss of currency.
Inspired by Ashtray Boy's double tours about Europe in 2000, and aided by numerous dictionaries friends and phrasebooks, "The Euro" terminates with oddly-formed eurodisco remixes (enjoying the international language of Drum n'Bass, and the genius of Greg Wadley).
Music is drawn from sessions in Germany, Australia, USA & Canada between 2000-2002, using the usual variety of players and instruments that were found, and provides a hint of local flavour through songwriting traditions (eg german pride of the Autobahn, portuguese drama of the Fado).
