Album Notes

The Mission of Asian Crisis is to create music from Asian traditions and the Asian Pacific American experience.

We believe in the power of music to transcend borders and barriers of all forms, and hope our explorations accompany movements towards tolerance, understanding, social justice, and peace.

Performing at community festivals, celebrations, benefits, music clinics and many private and public events since 1998, our goal has since been to create compelling new music that contributes to a pan-Asian/Asian Pacific American political consciousness. Current instrumentation and repertoire is inspired by the musical traditions of Asia, including India, Korea, Thailand, Laos, Japan, Okinawa, China, and the Philippines, as well as American musical forms such as jazz, R&B and funk.

Thank you to our families, friends, teachers and supporters!

We are proud to share with you our first release on CD Baby!

Peace and Unity through Music,
Art, Jason, John, Mas, Kiko, and Meena

fresh but instantly familiar

This album is so fresh but instantly familiar. So many tracks had me thinking – “I wish Miles was still with us and could listen to these tracks and COVER them.” He would have really dug this album. The playful piano and sax in “Stolen Fields” made me yearn to experience the Asia of the 60s. The Asia that Wong Kar Wai portrayed in 2046. As the piano begins, I imagined a young Korean pianist who was trying to infuse a little Monk in a quiet set at an Itaewon lounge in Seoul, 1966.
