Album Notes

THE GOODS: With roots in rock, jazz, and experimental music, the Assemblers push the envelope of the tune in quest of fresh pop gems and sonic surprises, somewhat in the spirits of Steely Dan, XTC and David Byrne.

Live shows are salted with improvisations that appeal to fans of Medeski, Martin & Wood.

The tracks on the Assemblers' new release, THE OTHER RIGHT PLACE (2002), range from the frisky pop of "Media Mind" and rock aggression of "Apsu's Complaint" to the smoldering mix of "You Burn Me" and the stark beauty of "Shortwave." Thanks to a distinguished team of hot guest players, including Davey Williams of Curlew, brilliant guitar contributions abound.

"Fans of experimentally fun music and pensive ballads can definitely find a worthwhile listen"--Casey Parks, THE PURPLE AND WHITE

THE BAND: Bruce Golden (drums, bells, toys, vocals), also a member of Curlew, has played in Ars Supernova, the Windbreakers, Beat Temptation, the Barbers, Zero Pop, WatersEdge, and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. He is widely regarded as one of the most interesting musicians in Mississippi.

Steve Smith (keyboard, guitars, vocals) has performed his own material solo around the South and recently has composed theater music for a series of Millsaps College productions.

Golden and Smith started playing and writing together in 1995, when they realized the implications of living two doors down from each other, and have been heard in Jackson and New Orleans venues since 1996.

Their debut CD, MAKE, appeared in 1999.
