The band started back in 1998 in El Paso, TX, with Lui and Yiyo. After a period of finding the right band mates, E.R.Y who used to play the bass, became Asthma's front man and Santana closed the circle joining as the bass player. Like many other bands, they started playing covers from their influences and after some time, they all combined their influences to create their own original material.
In late 2008 they produced and mixed their 1st album titled Gasping for Sanity. According to the band, this is a reflection of what they have achieved during all the time they have been together. Asthma has put a lot of effort into both the lyrics and the music. The band describes their music as "how they feel about the world"
