Album Notes

Astral is a San Francisco-based indie/dream-pop band. Blending elements of shoegaze wall of sounds with post-punk minimalism, Astral weaves a soundscape of texture and melody in a less-than rosy-colored world..."My Bloody Valentine meets Joy Division"- Amoeba Music

Astral's debut full length CD, Orchids, features 10 songs that span the inception in 2000 through 2003. Orchids has charted on college radio CMJ report at #15 on KYMC, St.Louis, in October 2003. An online review of this CD is available on Bay Area Buzz (nov 2003 issue) at http://www.bayareabuzz.net/cdreviews/#cdr2

A few songs from Orchids were recorded at CRI in San Francisco, CA in 2002 during the "Only Sometimes" sessions and were later completed and mixed at Stout Recording Studio in Oakland, CA in 2003. The album was engineered by Randy Burk who had also engineered recordings for bands such as the Swinging Utters among others.

The song Orchids was a 'freebie' on my Rio MP3 player. I decided to check them out further. Great creativity. Good tight playing with some very hitting lyrics. Look forward to hearing more from them.

There's some good stuff here
author: Phil Hatzenbuehler
This up and coming band is something of a small miracle. I've been hearing a song on the college radio station up in Seattle for a little while and the sound is GREAT. Strong drum beats, blazing guitars and compact songwriting. The songs on here don't meander, they just flat rock and find a great groove. Keep going guys. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Gorgeous shoe-gazery with old-school roots.
author: Jen Grover
With roots as deep into Joy Division as My Bloody Valentine, this is dark, swirling shoe-gazery with gorgeous melodies, dream atmospheres, and a gritty edge. Not a shabby track on here, but Last Light is a real standout.
