Album Notes

Athanasia is challenging the limits of the acoustic rock scene by incorporating heavy distortion riffs, ethereal swells and soaring lead lines over top of an intricate framework. Tight, sudden, ear-bending rhythm changes deny the listener of repose, and showcase the band's uncanny chemistry. The lyrics, at times haunting and introspective, fuse with vibrant melodies and together elevate the music above a graveyard of modern-day superficial pop.
Athanasia is the brainchild of Sacramento native, singer/songwriter Geoff Krieger. In 2004 guitarist Aaron Shively reconnected with Geoff at the NAMM Festival in Anaheim, CA, and they began to collaborate on material that would become their first E.P. Over the next two years, the band changed their name several times and experimented with various members while pursuing their now distinct musical style.
In mid-2006, the group decided on the name "Athanasia", and secured drummer Joey Gonzales. Joey's impressive chops and inclination to odd time signatures and complicated grooves proved to be the catalyst necessary to unleash the group's creativity and technical ability.
