ABOUT "STORIES FROM THE ROAD"
"Stories from the Road" is an intimate live album featuring new songs about touring, heartbreak, and scary imaginary monsters breathing outside KOA tents in Midwestern states. It's full of coffee cup clinks, unexpected laughter, and the gritty, no-holds-barred vibrato than only seems to happen in front of a live audience. This album is "pure Athena" like no other. Intimate stage banter reveals life on the road, and the simple instrumentation (piano, electric guitar & vocals) strips her songs down to their original, raw power. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the spontaneity, beauty, and magic that can only happen live.

"Stories from the Road" was recorded live at The Free Times Café in Toronto in February 2005, and at Uncommon Ground in Chicago in April 2005. This is Athena's 4th CD album.

ABOUT ATHENA:
Athena Reich is a bilingual Jewish Mennonite originally from Canada, which, once you get to know her, explains a lot. She is currently working on her 5th CD with Emmy/Grammy winning producer Cynthia Daniels. She has shared the stage with Peaches, Jim Carrey & Sarah Mclachlin and toured across North America for 3 years. She is also an actress who recently appeared as part of the 365 Days/Plays Festival at Lincoln Center & The Public Theater, and in the Punk-Rock Musical "Love Sucks" at the New York Musical Theater Festival 2007. Her music is storytelling piano-pop with a theatrical twist. She is constantly pushing boundaries, mocking taboo, and making you pee your pants with laughter.

Athena is as amazing live as on CD!
author: Donovan Worland
This CD is difficult because it draws every emotion out and it is wonderful because it makes the listener feel. It is as electrifying as the live show. Just get your hands on it...I am a hip-hop/punk fan and still this draws up memories of Tori Amos, janis joplin and the Gits in the best way. She is a powerful and passionate performer that will have you laughing and crying a few times over in one sitting. I highly recommend this album!

edgy, emotional live recordings of old faves and new heartbreakers
author: Rose Palazzolo
This album of recordings on the road rolls with explosions, swoons and outbursts of fiercely personal, political, intelligent but also fun music. The live show aptly showcases Reich's unique blend of punk, politics and cabaret. The polished live recordings include old faves and new heartbreaking tumultuous songs like Bones and White Bandages. It's more than worthy of a prominent spot in your cd collection.

the wild ride
author: the ambassador
Wild abandon. Pure passion. unadulterated madness. Oozing empathy and emotion. unapologetic humaness. Bold humility. Broad strokes from a genius unafraid to lay it all out on the line. One could go on and on about the newest offereing from the goddes in the making known as Athena. One notices immediately that the live setting serves her muse very well. She wiggles and reaches and soars in her sharing of her stories and it inspires.

If you can't afford to take 4 months off to follow Athena around the country, then buy this album. This is one of my favorite albums, contains some of my old favorites "Back to Canada" and "Ballad of Chicken Shower," but with the more intimate addition of a live recording the tunes are more rich and powerful and contain the stories behind the music. Athena's travels on the road have led to new artistic musings, a new sound emerges in tracks like "bogey man", and "bones." Both haunting, piano pieces I found to be deeply touching. Money Whore is sure to be a hot hit, it will have the masses quitting their jobs and grabbing their guitars, love it!
