Album Notes

Singer/songwriter/musician Atoosa has been performing locally in New York City and touring in support of her second full-length album, Night of the Deep Bloom, produced by Brad Albetta and Cameron Greider (Martha Wainwright, Teddy Thompson).

She describes her latest CD as “complete darkness with one faint light on,” created out of a difficult time of struggle for her. She courageously uses her life experiences in her songs to “tell the truth from (her) perspective,” hoping all the while to “spread hope” for her listeners, “no matter how dark it is.” In poetic piano songs like “Yellow Reversal” and “Question for You,” she explores love and hope, devastation and desire, in her unflinchingly honest search for truth. Her intensely personal lyrics, captivating vocals, and magnetic stage presence have been transcending musical boundaries while garnering audience attention and critical acclaim.

Atoosa, of Persian descent, was rated one of the ten sexiest Iranian women in the world by Salam Worldwide magazine. She currently lives in New York City’s West Village, moved to New York to attend NYU, where she studied Literature, then went on to Parsons School of Design to paint, and finally, received her M.A. from Hunter College in English and American Literature. Atoosa draws inspiration from all these sources, and themes of literature and art often weave their way throughout her songs.

Atoosa is a classically-trained pianist and self-taught guitar player. Her early influences were incredibly diverse – from Beethoven to The Police to Suzanne Vega - but all contain the common thread of great storytelling, a legacy that Atoosa intends to continue with her stirringly hopeful songs. Her later influences include lyrical songwriters such as Lucinda Williams and Aimee Mann, as well as romantic nature poet, Mary Oliver.

Today, Atoosa is constantly exploring different forms, and she is inspired by literature and classical mythology, listening to music, painting, writing, reading Tarot Cards, going to museums, and birds and butterflies, citing her “obsession with things that fly." Derek Sivers, President of CDBaby.com, lauds Atoosa as “creative and delicious,” and CollectedSounds.com wrote, “I can’t wait to hear what she does next!” Her next effort has arrived and lives up to the expectation and buzz. With its release, Atoosa excitedly looks forward to continued local gigs, touring and media appearances, and especially, “learning more about this world we inhabit,” and continuing to inspire audiences by “having the freedom to be who you really are.” Because to Atoosa, that is what her music is all about.

Beautiful and soothing

Perfect listening for lazy Sunday afternoons and nighttime music-sessions. "Airport" is heartbreakingly beautiful, "Isis" is very soothing and "April" makes me just feel good. I love the soft voice and the relaxed instrumentation and the pretty melodies. This one's a keeper!

Wonderful disc - heartfelt, sweet and lovely
author: BlogDog
As much as I liked "Sound Travels Up" (a lot), "Night..." is even better. I was captured at the outset by the lush cello fills in "Yellow Reversal" which are a wonderful counterpoint to Atoosa's ethereal and intimate vocals. Yet on repeated listens I think "Into the Sun" is my favorite song. It's almost a surf-rock toe-tapper which belies the cerebral, poetic lyrics. I can't explain why but it just works. This disc shows a musical development beyond the excellent words and music of her previous discs. The diminishing "beep, beep, beep" opening of "Airport" is a display of sonic smarts that's then overtaken by lusher, sweeter instrumentation when the song opens up. If she's gotten this much better from the previous disc, I wait for her next disc with bated breath. If you get the idea I love this disc, you have figured out my point. Do yourself a favor, buy this for yourself. Heck, do your friends a favor - buy copies for them too.

Awesome Album....

Beautiful arrangement, soothing vocals and awesome lyrics. I must admit, I just discovered Atoosa purely out of serendipity on the INternet and what a pleasant surprise that was. Her most recent album was beautiful and uplifting. Can't wait to purchase and listen to her older albums and maybe one of these days catch up with one of her live performances in the Baltimore area. THANK YOU ATOOSA. Keep up the great work!
