Hidden within the recent wash of commercially acceptable rock, pop star divas, and watered-down punk, Air This Side of Caution shares a musical vision with the likes of Radiohead, Gish-era Smashing Pumpkins and other like-minded artists who feel that songwriting precedes rock stardom. Air This Side of Caution isn't worried about the hook, although their melodies are catchy enough for even the most mainstream radio. As a live band they tend to bypass pre-formulated stage theatrics, allowing their performance to make even the most jaded music goers emphatically cheer for an encore.
So what is Air this Side of Caution all about? Honest musicianship, emotional lyrics, intelligent songwriting, and energetic, truthful delivery. Whether deemed rock, pop, soul, punk, indie, or experimental, this foursome diligently tests the strength of their own envelope, pushing their sound into virtually unclassifiable territory without losing sight of what matters: the soul of the music.
Since their explosion onto the music scene in 2001, Air This Side of Caution has raised themselves to new levels, both musically and professionally. With a growing fan base throughout the Midwest and numerous sold-out shows at many of Chicago's premiere venues, the band is constantly yearning for more. In the past year, Air This Side of Caution has appeared live on WGN-TV and CLTV's popular show MetroMix. They are also featured on the well circulated Ear Snacks Vol. 3 compilation from Aware Records alongside such notables as Mason Jennings and Angie Aparo. Building on the strength and popularity of their debut album, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Air This Side of Caution is currently in the pre-production stages of recording their next release, Listen to This at Night, due out in mid-2004.

thoughtful, sincere, thick and musical

This CD is one of my favorites. Each song is expertly composed with dynamics, gorgeous dissonant chord changes, stops, rocking hits, etc. Beautiful textures and excellent musicianship take the songs to level that most indi rockers don't even come close. If I could pigeon-hole AtSoC, I would describe them this way: Imagine Coldplay growing a set, then infusing a little Jeff Buckley and Radiohead. I think this CD would appeal anyone whole values song writing. And although this CD is far above pop-rock, it works for those listeners as well. Well done fellas.
