Album Notes

The eclectic style of the Austin Klezmorim is a fusion of E. European, Middle Eastern and Oriental traditions with American Jazz, S. American music and, of course, Texas music. Through this synthesis the Austin Klezmorim produces some of the most soulful and contemporary Klezmer around without losing the flavors that have passed the true test of time.
Their music evokes images of the Roaring Twenties, the Steppes of Eastern Europe, the deserts of the Middle East, and the fiery emotions of American Jazz.
The personnel on this recording is a who's who of Austin music and includes Howard Kalish on violin, Jay Rozen on tuba, Alex Coke on reeds, Randy Zimmerman on trombone, Mike Maddux on accordion, Rachel Rhodes and Susanna Sharpe on vocals and, of course, David Levy on Drums and eating utensils (spoons). Under the direction of trumpeter, leader, and composer Bill Averbach and with the assistance many other fine musicians the group has produced this milestone recording.
