In 2001, Sebastian Damiano, Tyler Kacsor and Matt Barbeau met while studying sound engineering in Toronto. Matt had been writing songs on an old acoustic guitar he bought while traveling and the three of them quickly began writing and recording new music.
These early sessions defined their direction: swirling acoustic and electric guitars, thick underlying beats melded with hushed poetic lyrics. Derek Watson quickly jumped in to fill out the low end and the band locked into a unified sound.
The summer of 2004 was an especially fertile period, producing an unusually large collection of compositions. autumneve decided it was time to record something substantial, so they shut out the rest of the world and emerged three months later with over 15 songs, recorded anywhere and everywhere, from small Toronto studios to their own bedrooms and basements. Inspiration was coming fast and furious - a song composed while waiting to rent a microphone at a local music shop was recorded that same night.
In August 2005 autumneve independently released Songs like Letters, a haunting cycle of songs weaving forlorn vocals, guitars, bass, drums, strings, keyboards and electronic samples. If songs like Closer and Words I Wish I Could Say play like letters to lost friends, This Autumn Evening and From Sunrise to Sunset offer elegies to the fleeting moments that make up a lifetime.
autumneve is currently touring their dynamic and intimate live performance in support of Songs like Letters. They continue to record and release new material - check www.autumneve.ca for new music downloads, b-sides and tour dates.
