Album Notes

Story telling has been around since early petroglyphs up to modern day stories told with words. On this Autumn's Child CD, "Storytelling" the storyteller is the native American flute. The stories spoken through the voice of the native flute are those that celebrate and remember the ancient ones as well as their contemporaries. Romantic, melodious and relaxing music is expressed in these compositions of musical stories. "Storytelling" has received a variety of air-play on PRI, NPR and numerous college and community stations. Beside the native American flute other instruments include cello, piano, harp, guitar, bass and percussion. (no spoken words) Listen to the samples and hear why Autumn's Child is described as "global chamber music" or "genre-bending". This eclectic ensemble has influeneces of native, world, jazz, classical and folk styles. "..immediately accessible, with plenty of dynamic tension built into an overall relaxing melody line, the music is richly nuanced, always fresh sounding. A must have CD for any native or instrumental music fan. PJ Coyote Caller Birosik, "nationally syndicated reviewer" "Autumn's Child is an acoustic music lovers dream come true. A perfect example of what the term "fusion" means, the album should hold appeal for world music fans, native American - influenced music listeners and lovers of acoustic instrumental ensembles...what a superb recording! I cannot recommend this album from Autumn's Child highly enough." Bill Binkelman, "Wind and Wire" "Acoustic albums of this stature come along only once in awhile, as Mark Holland and company are out to impress. Storytelling is going to appeal to a wide audience... simply wonderful all around." Jimmy D. "Instrumental Weekly" "The uplifting music is filled with lively melodies and gentle harmonies. Holland plays flute with passionate grace and his tone is pure and sweet. The innovative combination of American Indian flavors and phrasing with western instruments creates new neuronal pathways of pleasure. Storytelling is sure to please those who appreciate the best in contemporary American Indian instrumental music." Steve Ryals, "nationally syndicated reviewer"

REVIEWS

Reminiscent of the Peter Kater and R. Carlos Nakai collaborations, this beautiful Native American-centered album blends the reverent and proud music of the flute with an accessible folk and new age weaving, including the warm, acoustic voice of guitar. The modern context and ever-so-slight pop tinge here and there can bring to mind the songs of Robbie Robertson while also keeping well grounded and centered in a solid ground of earthy tones. The appreciated range of songs from solo flute to fully realized, instrumental songs makes this a must for collectors of Native flute, earthy new age and world fusion styles. This is a classy, tasteful and simply beautiful album that delicately blends all these elements without cliche.
