Album Notes

"A Different Kind Of Real" the latest album in the ever
evolving musical styles of Autumn's Child.
Released in the year of the 40th Anniversary of the "summer of music" from the west coast that
influenced all types of fusion music world wide.
On this outing the Native American Flute is featured
on the Moody Blues classic, "Nights In White Satin"
along with "Havana Sunset" (latin/cuban) groove.
"Real Kuhl Time" is a solo flute piece where Mark Holland
plays 2 flutes at the same time. "True Life Adventure"
is a composition by Peter Mayer - Mayer sings and plays
guitar on this one (it has a bit of a reggae feel)
"Daydream Morning" and "A Change Will Come" showcase
the Native American Flute in a Jam Band context.
ala Grateful Dead or Sea Level on one and the Byrds on
another. "Whole Earth Jam" begins with an Ultra Low D flute
and when the Udu begins the flute is double chambered A
mixed with cello and guitar. The final piece is a bonus
track from an upcoming Autumn's Child Christmas album.
This piece is called, "Wind Of Heaven" and low and mid
flutes are used with guitar and the Hang.
(a percussion instrument that sounds somewhat like
steel pan drums)

Read A Review:
"The sound of backwards guitar introduces this newest
CD by one of the most unique contemporary instrumental
ensembles recording today - Autumn's Child....
it leads into the 1967 classic song by the Moody Blues,
"Nights In White Satin". This original arrangement places
the Native wood flute in the psychedelic era of music.
It is a most brilliant rendition of this timeless composition. Holland actually plays the silver flute part
from the original work on his Native American Flute.
Amazing. With the cello answering the flute one sees
how Autumn's Child is described as global chamber music.
Other stand out pieces are the cubanesque, "Havana Sunset".
Conjours up the feel of Buena Vista Social Club with solos
on piano, flute and guitar / backed by congas and claves
with cello and bass guitar. Grab a partner, a glass of wine
and dance the night away to this one.
Hollad then is heard playing 2 flutes simultaneously.
Brilliant. Showing his expertise in control and breath.
Peter Mayer's "True Life Adventure" fits perfectly into
this sequence with his clear/golden vocals soaring over
a light reggae groove. Holland's flute work is very playful
and very natural for this beautiful track. The ride out
of this piece features interplay between the flute and
the vocal - helping the listener to dance and sway or
just getting lost in the music wishing it would not end.
"Daydream Morning" is likened to a Dead jam.... an easy
going... drivin' down the road song. Holland's solo here is
amazingly technical...with fast flurries of notes.
The electric guitar solo sounds as if a warm tribute to
Jerry. The following item is as if Roger McGuinn arrived on
the scene. "A Change Will Come", is the Native American
Flute meets the Byrds - with that classic 12 string electric sound. It starts off sparse and then layers and
builds to a catchy hook melody played by 2 flutes in
harmony. The remaing compostions feature the Native Flute
with a semi- hip hop feel - with rapid guitar and didgeridoo. On "Whole Earth Jam" the udu is showcased along
with the dual chambered flute.... a 9 minute workout.
The closing tune, "Wind of Heaven" is a beautiful, serene
piece. Flute, Guitar and Hang - very unique sound.
Autumn's Child continues making music in mutiple genres,
finding a way for them all to work toghether -
a blessed union of harmony and balance.

Astounding and Outstanding! Native American Style Flute like you've never heard it played before. Don't miss this Album, as you'll hear it later and regret you didn't make the investment. Mark Holland is a complete master of the instrument and a musical artist in this genre without peer.

I found Autumn's Child on MySpace while searching for a seasonal song for my page. The first song I listened to was 'Daydream Morning' and I was hooked. The sound was like being at a Grateful Dead concert with the amazing sound of Native American Flute added. Would have liked to be at that concert! I immediately knew I had found an Artist I could never tire of. Mark is amazing on the Native American Flute and the group is fantastic. This was my first CD and I have since purchased two more of 'Greatest Gift'. Lovely Christmas music which includes the feeling of the REAL Reason for the Season. Hoping Santa brings me the whole collection. I could listen to this music 24-7.
