Album Notes

The Children's Music Web Awards 2008 Winner:
BEST NEW ARTIST FOR YOUNG CHILDREN

"CONGRATULATIONS galore on your wonderful CD.
What a wonderul and special CD you've made, Ava. I've been playing it for
my son on the car ride to school and he loves it. He particulary loves the ABC
song, Neener Neener Neener, and Leonard's Lizard Larry. He requests the CD
frequently in the car which is a very good sign.

I love the cover of the CD. Fantastic painting, Brian...and so cheerful and fun.
I still can't get over your amazing attention to detail.

Once again, (Ava) thank you so much for sharing your wonderful creation with us."
Alex Zamm (Director: Dr. Doolittle III, Inspector Gadget ll, My Date with the President's Daughter)

"I really enjoy your jazzy approach to kids music- and especially the Professor Longhair-influenced "Owee" song. Keep up the great work!"
Tito (The Hipwaders)

“Nicely produced and performed celebration of the wonders of the world without and within and with just a dash of whimsy thrown in for good measure.” John Wood, Kidzmusic.com

"Your music is soooo cool!" Dee Settlemier (the Midnight Serenaders)

A pack of precocious pachyderms are proudly parading their way into plazas and pleasing people's palates!

Ava and The Mystic Mangos is an ensemble of five accomplished musicians and special guests whose collective experience makes “Elephants In My Ears” a stellar CD for young people of all ages. With a 20 page eye-popping lyric booklet, “Elephants” is a funky eclectic soufflé of well-seasoned sounds--pop, rock, reggae, polka, funk, jungle-bop, you name it—with enough zing to make Great Grandma jump up and do the Pachyderm Twist.

Ava Scofield, accomplished versatile singer/songwriter has packed Elephants In My Ears full with twelve sweet, silly swingin’ songs delightful to the ears of children and adults alike. Included is a 20 page full-color lyric booklet brimming with eye-popping paintings and illustrations by artist Brian Clarke.

All the musicians on “Elephants In My Ears” are magnificently “mangolicious”--each one filled with a sweet wealth of experience.

Singer/songwriter Ava Scofield has been composing music and performing since the age of 5. She’s versed in a number of styles of music and has been a featured soloist in countless productions and at events. Career highlights include performing with former Metropolitan Opera singer Jerome Hines and learning jazz-singing technique from Bobby McFerrin and the great now-deceased Carl Anderson. She’s been teaching music to children and adults for 18 years.

Pianist John R. Burr, along with being a Mango, performs with the Grammy-winning Alison Brown Quartet. Bass-player Bill Lanphier recorded on Joanie Bartels “Silly Time” and “Bath Time” and also toured with Madonna on her “Like a Virgin” tour. Sax-player Tom Politzer, guest-artist, is with Tower Of Power. Grammy nominee Jeremy Cohen is a virtuoso violinist. Drummer Bili Turner is a wonderful blues drummer who has played with Albert King, Chuck Berry, Junior Wells and other great artists.

Nimble-fingered Guitarist Mark Holzinger also performs with the country-western swing band “Lost Weekend.” Acoustic bass-player Ruth Davies played regularly with the late Charles Brown and many other musicians. Michaelle Goerlitz added her skilled conga-playing and percussion to a number of “Elephants In My Ears” songs. Flute-player Nika Rejto also added her wonderful skilled sound to this CD!

And of course, there are the Mangoettes, the splendid herd of children who joined Ava and added their vocal prowess and whimsy to four of the songs on this delightful CD.

Shake, boogie and bop; do the Pachyderm Twist and the Mango Tango to the hip, hoppinin’ sounds of Ava and The Mystic Mangos. Elephants In Your Ears will shoogie your woogie!

We're excited to share Ava and The Mystic Mangos’ “Elephants In My Ears” with you!

I really enjoy listening to this CD! It is quite delightful. I think every track is just great. I love the concept of the music emphasizing diversity, using your resources like the library, counting in different languages and kids learning their ABC's in various languages. Also, I loved the voices of the children's choir. The musicality was wonderful, and the drumming is fabulous! Kudos to all associated with the CD. My hats off to the soloist, she has a beautiful voice. She sounds like the actress/singer Julie Andrews. The CD is very educational and fun, with catchy lyrics and music that makes one want to tap their feet, sing along, and smile. I would definitely recommend the CD to the age group toddlers to elementary students and early middle school students.

Love flows throughout this music. Ava obviously loves to sing and tell stories, the kids who sing with her and the top notch musicians who back her up obviously love being a part of the process. The listener also feels a part of it all, as if she were right there in the studio taking it all in with a smile. Music for kids? Yeah, I guess so, but I challenge mom and dad to listen to "Rocket To The Moon" or "We All Make A Difference without movin' some part of your body to the beat and anyone who had a heart (I love that song too, maybe Ava will cover it on a future CD) is bound to get a lump in his throat listening to "I'm A Dog" or a tear in her eye as she tucks in her child with "Let Music Be The Wind" playing softly in the background. Feel the love.
